Matt smith is the 11th doctor. The doctor in his eleventh body, but his final regeneration, peter capaldi is the 12th doctor, so somehow moffat is going to have to give the doctor more regenerations, i think he will be granted more regenerations by the time lords because he saved Galifrey..

That’s a great theory but it seems likely now that Matt Smith is the 13th doctor (John Hurt doctor and Journey’s end half regeneration) so somehow Peter Capaldi will be the doctor even though the doctor is in his final regeneration. But your theory does sound good 🙂

in night of the doctor, the 8th doctorwas dying, . the time lord lady gave him a cup with something in it. so this could mean that he started his regeneration stream again. so this regeneration will be his 5th . so he has another 7 lives left. its just a thought

The price should return to normal after this.

At least this months DWM isn’t as hefty a cost as the 50th Anniversary Issue.

    • Trenzalore

      December 12th, 2013 - 6:45pm

I think it will go back to normal price after these, the 50th issue was expensive for obvious reasons and this one is Matt’s last one so they probably expect a lot of people will buy it therefore more money for them

It seems that the regeneration energy in The Stolen Eath/Journey’s End counts as a regeneration.

    • doctorwhofan82

      December 6th, 2013 - 4:35pm

Moffat has come out and said that the stolen earth regeneration and john hurt regeneration both counting making Matt technically the 13th doctor and Capaldi the 14th.

    • Anonymous

      December 6th, 2013 - 9:04pm

Not the 13th Doctor, he’s the thirteenth incarnation, twelfth regeneration and Twelfth Doctor (but referred to by fans as the Eleventh Doctor).

    • Love DoctorWho

      December 7th, 2013 - 10:03am

No, he is the thirteenth doctor, as John Hurt was effectively 9, then Chris, then Davod, and david regenerated twice (see stolen earth) and then Matt is the thirteenth.

    • Danny Brown

      December 7th, 2013 - 4:16pm

The Doctor can only regenarate 12 times. But the 10th doctor regenarted twice so the 11th doctor is his final body.

He said 507, and it was specifically that number because its’ digits (5 + 0 +7) add up to 12, so still 12 Regenerations in reality!
      😉

What do they mean final life? Matt Smith is the eleventh doctor!

(And I don’t care what people say John Hurt wasn’t an official doctor. He was 8.5, not 9! And the other tenth doctor doesn’t count ether, because he was human.)

And if that is how Mr. Moffat is counting the regenirations, then he should be on his 14th life, because of the watcher and the Valeyard.

    • 100000BC

      December 5th, 2013 - 1:58pm

      Okay… Are you ready?

The watcher and the valeyard were not real Doctors, as the watcher was a projection and the valeyard was a manifestation of the Doctor’s darkey side from BETWEEN two of his regenerations.

Although we’re not calling him “the 9th Doctor”, John Hurt is technically the 9th Doctor, as we saw the regenerations 8-Hurt and Hurt-9. Just because the Doctors don’t call him the Doctor, it doesn’t mean he’s automatically discounted from the Doctor’s lives.

      CONTINUED

    • Dalek the Supreme

      December 5th, 2013 - 2:00pm

John Hurt’s Doctor was the true 9th incarnation, he didn’t consider himself the Doctor because he ended the Time War. The Meta-Crisis Doctor was created using the regeneration energy that would have brought forth the 11th (12th counting John Hurt) Doctor Therefore, because of the 8th Doctor’s loss of hope and the 10th Doctor’s vanity, Matt Smith is the 13th Doctor.

The Valeyard is an amalgamation of everything evil about the Doctor from BETWEEN his 12th and 13th incarnations, while the Watcher was the 5th Doctor.

    • 100000BC

      December 5th, 2013 - 2:00pm

People aren’t counting the human duplicate Doctor, they’re counting the time he regenerated into himself but stored the energy in the hand, therefore stopping himself from changing.

      December 5th, 2013 - 2:22pm

Thank you 100000BC & Dalek the Supreme. I’ve thought of the watch and the Valeyard as half doctors for years! Still a bit sad that Matt is in a way the 13th doctor, but sorry to be different from the rest of the group, but to me he will always be the 11th Doctor.

Only thing now is, it’s going to be harder to explain it to the older fans of the show, as Peter Capaldi has been announced in the media (and everywhere else for that matter) as the 12th doctor.

    • Dalek the Supreme

      December 5th, 2013 - 6:16pm

I acknowledge that Matt Smith is number 13, but I still call him the 11th Doctor, Capaldi will be the 12th Doctor, and John Hurt was the War Doctor. Very complicated.

    • WFK DVD Collector 13

      December 6th, 2013 - 6:32pm

Ok, this is how it is!! (I think)

Before the new series, there was no question about it, 8 doctors.

Then in 2005 we get the 9 and 10th doctors.

Even at this point the doctor was only on his 11th life (technically) even though we didn’t know about the war doctor yet.

2008: In a way, the tenth doctor uses another one of his lives in journey’s End healing him self, there for making him the 11th & 12th

      Continued…

    • WFK DVD Collector 13

      December 6th, 2013 - 6:34pm

2010: Matt Smith becomes the 11th doctor (not counting the war doctor). But because he has used two of his lives, the doctor can’t go past number 11.

I wish they would give it as much publicity as when david tenant was leaving

    • 100000BC

      December 6th, 2013 - 8:45pm

It’s because the so called “Doctor Who fans” who may have been to start with but then became “David Tennant fans” couldn’t get over the fact that David left and automatically rejected Matt Smith and stopped watching or lost interest (I know many examples of this). Therefore when David was such a big deal his regeneration was and just because a few pessimists stopped watching, Matt’s regeneration is nowhere near as much of a big deal. That’s the way I see it anyway.

    • The Saviour of Gallifrey

      December 6th, 2013 - 8:48pm

I think it’s because people thought that each new doctor from Eccleston onwards would only last one year, but because David lasted 5 years everyone was making a big deal out of him leaving, but now we’ve kind of gotten used to it.
