Doctor Who Inferno Special Edition (DVD)

dvd-inferno-special-editionDoctor Who Inferno Special Edition (DVD)

Released on May 27, 2013.

With Jon Pertwee, Caroline John, Nicholas Courtney, John Levenea and Olaf Pooley.

An experiment gone awry sends the Doctor (Jon Pertwee) to a parallel universe where his friends and companions are members of a fascist regime in this thrilling and popular episode from the long-running science fiction series Doctor Who.

Inferno is the name of a project designed to drill into the Earth’s core and release a powerful energy source called Stahlman’s Gas; what’s yielded instead is an insidious substance that transforms men into monsters.

The resulting chaos interrupts the Doctor’s travel in the TARDIS and knocks him into an alternate Earth run by a military dictatorship, and where Project Inferno’s progress threatens to bring about an apocalypse.

i think there’s only really the need for 6 more Special Editions in my case and even then the only reasoning for it is not for restoration but because of the extra disc of extras and for a newer cover art these would be: in no real order “The Horror of Fang Rock”, “The Pyramids of Mars”, “The Leisure Hive”, “Earthshock”, “The Dalek Invasion of Earth” and “The Mind Robber” i mean how great would a new cover be for the Dalek Invasion of Earth from Lee Binding 🙂 besides that though there is no reason really for more Special Editions past now.

The special editions are great, and I agree with your choices but a special edition for Arc of Infinity is much needed, as is Two Doctors.

Would be nice if Mark and the Rani and Genesis of the Daleks had rereleases aswell 🙂

i wouldn’t mind Genesis for a new cover but honestly that release is perhaps one of the best, also whilst looking at Arc of Infinity l’m not sure it really needs anything its got a good amount of extras like normal, and Mark of the Rani is for my collection not good, l only collect the 1st to 5th Doctors because 6 and 7 didn’t do a great job in my and many others opinions. apart from that i did like The Two Doctors for Patrick Troughton and that was a great release that could only use a new cover 🙂 just let Lee Binding do covers up to 2006 🙂

I think the six they should only special edition are dalek invasion of earth,Earthshock,Mind robber, ghostlight, horror of fang rock, curse of fenric and maybe the leisure hive! So that’s what I think that should be rereleased.who here agrees and what’s your thoughts?

      February 25th, 2013 - 12:22am

The main reason for the special editions is visual improvements and after this year they are pretty much out of stories that would give enough visual improvments to make special editions worth while in my opinion.

with spearhead getting a special edition bluray, could the movie and the new series 1-4 get blurays as well?

The tv movie could be possible if the original negs could get tracked down but if the original negs do still exist at universal is unknown. Also the effects would need to be recreated as they were added in post production on tape. The cost of tracking down the footage remastering for blu ray and recreating the effects in all likelyhood would be too expensive

I wonder how long it is going to be until they release every (needed) story to Special Edition. I’ve noticed all Special Editions ar from 2003-2006 releases and the remaining stories are (not including the so far 2013 releases):

    The Dalek Invasion Of Earth
    The Web Planet
    The Mind Robber
    Genesis Of The Daleks
    Pyramids Of Mars
    The Hand Of Fear
    Horror Of Fang Rock
    City Of Death
    The Leisure Hive
    Earthshock
    The Mark Of The Rani
    The Two Doctors
    Revelation Of The Daleks
    Ghost Light
    The Curse Of Fenric

    • Connor

      February 22nd, 2013 - 11:44pm

I think they only need to release
      Dalek invasion of earth
      Earthshock
      Curse of fenric
      The Mind robber
      Ghostlight
      Horror of fang rock
      Leisure hive
And that’s it! No more after that we don’t need special editions of:
      Genesis of the daleks
      Revelation of the daleks
      Two doctors
      Pyramids of mars
      Mark of the rani
      City of death
      Hand of fear

I think they should spend less money on SEs and more on animating the lost episodes

Each DVD gets its budget alocated by how much its expected to sell. If they didn’t do special editions there wouldn’t be more money avalible to do animated stories. Even if it was the case it would not make much difference to the ammount of animated storiesas special editions are much cheaper to do than animated stories

This is my 3rd favorite story! I hate the DVD cover it looks like the video release covers,I prefure the old release DVD cover to this! I hope theres a lot of special features, I think this will probably have the most special features in the DVD range! I love the monsters in this story and the parallel universe theme! This is the last story of the first season and the last story to feature Liz shore! I will defently be getting this DVD on the release date for shore! I really think thouw it didnt need a special edition! What’s you’r thoughts?

There will be 2 possibly 3 new documentaries that wasn’t on the original. The original release the picture quality wasn’t as good as some others of that era. Based upon the improvements on ep 2 and 3 of axos which went through the same restoration techniques as inferno I have high hopes for the picture quality of inferno

    • Gordon

      February 21st, 2013 - 9:54pm

dimensions in time will never get an official release. The restoration team website is clear on this: Dimensions in Time was an insert in the BBC’s Children in Need charity telethon. As the artistes taking part gave their time free of charge it was agreed that BBC Worldwide (then BBC Enterprises) would never seek to exploit it commercially in any form. (DC)
No amount of suggestions, “what ifs” or general pleading is likely to change this.

Dimensions in time and the cause of fatal death could be an upcoming DVD extra or it should of been with more then 30 years in the tardis boxset

    • gordon

      February 22nd, 2013 - 9:52am

Even if there wasn’t legal issues regarding dimensions in time the cost of getting access from cin is 4k a minute which just isn’t worthwhile for what is an extra

If they release An Unearthly Child – Ultimate 50th Anniversary edition, it should be a 3-disc. One with all the original content from the original release. One with an Adventure In Space and Time and one with a movie-legnth edit of AUC (WITH an ultimate commentary featuring all surviving Doctor actors, Russell T Davies, Steven Moffat and Jenna-Louise Coleman)

I agree I think the dalek invasion of earth, Earthshock, mind robber and ghostlight all need special editions! And maybe the leasure hive and the horror of fang rock should be rereleased maybe? But I don’t want a special edition of the two doctors and the pyramids of mars as they are perfectly fine! And I think there should be more special editions! And maybe one day we will get these storys special editioned!

      February 22nd, 2013 - 9:08am

I reckon some releases are a rip off you spend a lot of money to the first release then twelve years later another one comes out spending maybe another lot of money but there are some releases that a worth getting like the Aztecs which has galex 4 some that came out back in the day should come out again and for the 50th year on 23rd of november I reckon there must be a box set which contains an unearthly child , the three drs , the five doctors , the two doctors with extracts from the time crash , dimeansions in time, the cause of fatal death

    • gordon

      February 22nd, 2013 - 9:39am

None are a rip off. You have to realise technology has moved forward in the past 7 to10years. What was good at the time doesn’t match now. Just look at the difference between the picture quality of ep 2 and 3 of claws of axos and the original and you will see what I mean

Classic series format or something similar to Dreamland? either way l’m pretty sure the majority would rather have some of The Underwater Menace DVD Release news than what has probably not been seen at all by many with The Scream of the Shalka… feel free to discuss that though l’m open ears on peoples opinions and views.
