Doctor Who Energy of the Daleks LP Sainsbury’s Exclusive

You can search for this item on www.ebay.co.uk

The exclusive blue coloured vinyl of Doctor Who Energy Of the Daleks by Big Finish will go on sale this Friday, 25th May. It will be priced at £18.

Coming soon to a Sainsbury’s near you, Doctor Who: Energy of the Daleks will be available for the first time on vinyl record. So keep an eye out for this special new vinyl from the time of the Fourth Doctor!

In an exclusive deal with Sainsbury’s supermarket, from the 25th of May Sainsbury’s will be stocking a strictly limited pressing of Energy of the Daleks on blue 180gm heavyweight vinyl. They will be available in participating stores only, and limited to 1,500 units.

A spokesperson from Sainsburys said: “We’re really excited to be stocking something as iconic as the Doctor in our stores, so to have Energy of the Daleks in a limited run on blue vinyl is a massive treat for us.”

The Daleks take on Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor in this Doctor Who full-cast audio drama from 2012, which takes place between The Talons of Weng-Chiang and Horror of Fang Rock, both broadcast on BBC One in 1977.

Didn’t have time to check before work. First store I checked only had the empty space where they would have been. I checked with customer service afterwards just in case they had some hidden. She knew nothing of the vinyls.
Was surprised to find they were still in-stock at gone 7pm when j finally got to my local shop.
Interesting to note that neither of these were in the main vinyl section but tucked with the CDs.

Whilst I agree it’d be nice if everyone who wanted one could get one, the idea behind a ltd edition is to get footfall into the stores, and by all accounts it was successful!

Half hour drive there and half hour back before work this morning to Hempsted Valley, the nearest large Sainsburys. Got there around 9am and picked up the last copy.
The confused lady at the self checkout asked me why everyone was buying Doctor Who records that morning.
I hope future editions are in larger numbers so everyone has an opportunity to purchase.

The larger Sainsburys stores were given between 3 and 5 copies only, and they were quickly snapped up today (Friday). Multiple buying was allowed. You weren’t able to reserve a copy by phone….you had to go in and buy it. At £18.00, it looks very nice.
Some stores hadn’t put them out on the Vinyl display shelves, so you needed to ask if they had any in the stockroom.
Already a few on Ebay I see, reaching £25 and climbing!

I got mine from my local (Hedge End) Sainsbury’s this morning. Displayed with the other vinyl. No restrictions. Two left after I picked up mine.

I got to Hedge End by 1.40 and all sold out. A friend of mine got there later and was told 15 people had asked for it in the last hour. Hedge End is a massive shop and I gambled of all the Sainsburys, it would have one. I drove 20 miles to another one which had four copies; a smaller Sainsburys.

Lovely product, which is the main thing. Not that it will ever get opened.

Funny, I got there before 8am on my way to work as I’m a school teacher and I had to get some lunch. So just thought I’d have a quick look down entertainment aisle but none on the LP stand. So reckon you got guys got lucky as I’d have probably bought one if available.

Ollie, did you look on the rack (at the top) or the cardboard stand set slightly away from the racks? I went in just after 9 on Friday morning, looked at the cardboard stand first, then spotted the Who ones at the top on the actual rack. Nearly missed it myself.

From their Facebook live video: If this sells well they would like to do “a lot more” and we may see more news on this very soon (possibly in DWM)…

I’d imagine so. They are probably aware of eBay scalpers and stuff. Especially as its a limited number

Big Finish’s news item on this today seems to mention everything but the price…is it likely to be around £25-£35, similar to the Record Store Day releases?

What a time to be a store manager for Sainsbury’s and have staff discount 😉 I’ll keep an ear out in case I hear any news about them coming in etc.

What about places where the nearest Sainsbury’s don’t stock vinyl? Can you get your local store to order it in for you?

I wonder why you have to ask for this, rather than buying it online in a listing

I dont think they (Sainsbury’s) sell any of their Vinyls on-line
