The first big screen spin-off from the television series featuring the infamous Daleks.

Eccentric Earth inventor Doctor Who (Peter Cushing) is demonstrating his space/time craft, the TARDIS, to his niece’s boyfriend, Ian (Roy Castle), when he manages to whisk them all of to the planet Skaro.

I’m happy with the DVD release with the commentary and the documentary Dalekmania, so no plans to buy. But nice for those who have the Whopound.

It’s like a high-definition DVD. They need a separate box to play on though… they’ve been around for a few years now, very surprised you don’t know of it.

I understand these are being re-released in standard DVD Format too, so you won’t need a Blu-Ray Player for those.

I wounder why they did not put this film with the other film in a double pack I would be much better havering both of them together plus it saves space on the DVD shelves of people who want to get

I will not be getting this as I have already got it plus I have not got a blu – ray player

I’m surprised they didn’t just release a blu-ray version of the ‘Dalek Collection’ two pack DVD set. Though I guess it is a tactic to get more money. I’m considering buying the DVD two pack as I too have not got a blu-ray player and it is only about £8 in most stores.

they are going to put it in a double pack, it will be called “dalek limited edition” (i think they could have though of a better title)

Great. One of those things that’s always been in my mind is wondering what ‘The Chase’ would have been like on film has it been made (it was on the cards at some point I think). Watch the first doc story and replace him with Cushing and add glorious technicolour -it would have been interesting

I am rather irritated by that 50th anniversary sticker on there… In my opinion it shouldn’t be on there as this film series isn’t part of the show itself. A sticker like that belongs on DVDs of the show only… feel free to dissagree but that’s my honest opinion.

I disagree with you in a friendly way. I love the fact that we are able to add Cushing’s Doctor to the 50th celebration, like we’ll be adding Scream of the Shalka later in the year with an animated Doctor. I suppose you could peel the sticker of if it does irritate you though 😉

It’s more the fact that the only reason this film irritates me is that the Doctor isn’t the Doctor. He us human andhis nnameis Dr. Who? And (said in a Marty McFly BTTF way) he built a time machine… out of a police box? Please… I’m sorry but I just think that was a bad mustake and the reason the films didn’t do as well as the show. Cushing could have been a grear second Doctor… though if he had been the Doctor after Hartnell… I wonder how the show would have gone with the possibility of no Troughton! Hmm… the mind does ponder…

Personally I quite like that as it sets it apart from the actual TV show!

These were basically film re-makes of the original series. Cushing plays Doctor Who, a human who built a time machine out of an old Police telephone box. I watched this, not the second, a few years back and wasrather cconfused until I looked it up and these practically have no connection to the show other than the Daleks, TARDIS and the Doctor Who character names.

That’s what I meant by the DW character names… and the Thals! Forgot they were original aliens too.
