WH Smith shops in Edinburgh – some at the train station (Waverley) and the bus station (off St Andrew’s square)

also saw a copy in my local independent newsagent – the Co-op (next door) didn’t have any.

Jan-Mar cover dates should mean they stay on the shelves for a while

It’s a shame this didn’t come out for the launch of series 11, or even the New Years special. But even so it’s a gorgeous-looking magazine, and I picked it up as I collect stickers and postcards so the magazine was a nice bonus

Great to see this come back to shelves! Not much in it about the series itself but there’s a comic and lots of puzzles and colour to keep kids interested. Hope this becomes a thing again!

I’d say it will depend on how well this one-off special does. If it is very successful, it could even be reinstated as a fortnightly (even weekly) regular when the show returns in 2020… Though Chibnall would need to give more marketing material prior to the season launch…

I mean, I don’t care about the colours? The content is what matters.

Plus, I’m 22, and when I have kids of my own, I’m not bothering gender stereotyping them, they can like whatever colours or things they want to, people around my age to their early 30’s are also doing this more often. My point is to me, this looks like a magazine for kids. Not boys, not girls, just kids. All of them. And that’s the point, more than anything.

Fantastic post J45on96. agree very much, although im much older and the kids is all grown up now.

nephews and nieces get what they ask for. 2 nieces have bones in mud science kits for xmas, which apparently is a boys toy (on the box) the oldest girl, scribbled it out and wrote, for Girls, on the box. i smile ,but was really punching the air.

cant wait for this. Loved the old adventures mag, comic strip of joy.

Limited edition postcards? What’s limited about them? Strange wording, surely they come with the comic as an exclusive anyway, may as well call the posters limited edition too

They mean that the postcards are only available with this magazine, as in they are not available for purchase elsewhere or on their own

    • Tyler Prescott

      January 10th, 2019 - 3:41pm

‘Exclusive’ would probably be a more accurate term.

I’m sorry, but this is obviously being aimed at young girls and not even thinking about appealing to the boys slightly. This does’t look like a magazien for Doctor Who. Looks more like a magazine for Jacqueline Wilson or something. The cartoon y drawings, the pink and red hearts?

2 tiny hearts hardly excludes boys!

Why can’t this look appeal to boys?

    • Anonymous

      January 9th, 2019 - 7:41pm

Young boys will sadly see this and go “That’s too girly!”. And i’m afraid that is almost the case. Even my teenage friends who i showed this to laughed when i said I wanted it saying it was girly. The primary target audience is blatantly girls, but some boys will get this, though. Like myself. I don’t care what others say, i’m buying it for the childhood nostalgia.

I think it just looks like what it is – a kids comic, It looks bright and fun and I will be getting a copy, I think the 2 hearts represents the Doctor’s 2 Hearts

If a young boy sees the doctor on this magazine then he won’t care what colours and patterns they use. I speak from experience. I’ll be getting this for old times sake anyway and I reckon they’ll have a fair few people in their late teens like me buying it for the same reason.

You obviously haven’t checked the kids section on the magazine rack for a while… This looks like it’ll fit in perfectly.

    • Dominic

      January 9th, 2019 - 9:39pm

I’m not saying it won’t fit in with the other magazines (and that’s not exactly relevant). I’m saying it does not look like a cover for a Doctor Who Magazine in my opinion. And I get that the two hearts represent The Doctor having two hearts, but it’s a bit random just putting two love hearts on it. The colour scheme as well isn’t really Doctor Who-y.

      January 9th, 2019 - 10:35pm

Young boys will look at it and all they will see will be the logo and The Doctor. They really don’t care about the colour palette or the patterns. Speaking from experience when I bought them around 9 years ago when I was 5

For things like this, the subject matter is more important than the design. And even if some elements of it are more aimed at girls, it’s about time – the old version of the magazine always sat in the ‘boys’ section of newsagents (despite having gendered sections for kids magazines being ludicrous)

    • Anonymous

      January 10th, 2019 - 6:05pm

I’m male and I didn’t see it as girly. Besides the hearts are small. Unless they examin the cover, they probably won’t notice hearts till later
