The fiftieth anniversary of the world’s longest running science-fiction show looms ever closer and the New Zealand Mint are ready to unleash their third coin release in celebration.

The set compromises a large replica of the Doctors famous pocket fob watch into which are placed 11 of the 12 coins, all of which are 1/2oz of 0.999 silver. You cna usually find the items on www.amazon.co.uk or www.ebay.co.uk

The Seventh Doctor’s iconic appearance was designed by Ken Trew in April 1987, ready for McCoy’s debut in Time and the Rani. He battled Daleks and Cybermen, braved Paradise Towers, played chess with Fenric, and performed at the Psychic Circus for the Gods of Ragnarok until the costume made its last appearance in 1989’s Survival.

Sylvester McCoy’s Seventh Doctor briefly tried a Napoleon-inspired look, a mortarboard with cape, and the clothes of four of his predecessors, but he quickly settled on this iconic jumper that underlines the show’s main concept: Doctor… Who?!

Day of The Doctor DVD and Blu-ray

books-thevault300Doctor Who: The Vault: Treasures from the First 50 Years

Named in Guinness World Records as the longest running science fiction TV series in the world, the BBC-produced television program, Doctor Who, will celebrate its fiftieth year in 2013. Since its conception in 1963, the show has become a major part of British pop culture and has continued to garner new fans with each generation.

The series centers on the adventures of the main character known simply as the Doctor, who is a Time Lord—a time traveling humanoid alien—who explores the universe in his TARDIS, a telepathic time-and-space-travel machine that, on the outside, resembles a classic blue British police box. Over the years, the Doctor has been accompanied by a wonderful array of companions who have helped him battle his enemies and save civilizations.

Slightly off topic, but there is a 1/6 figure of Winston Churchill coming out in June. It’s not the Doctor Who Winston Churchill (the figure has nothing to do with Doctor Who)… it’s based off the real person. BUT, it fits the BCS DW range size wise, and would be nice to display next to the Big Chief 11th Doctor – or any of the Doctors really. Of course it’s very expensive. :p

Just thought I’d say, after reading previous questions, how funny I think it is when someone asks the site for a certain figure to be released. I know, I know, I’m being harsh, but booboo and Luke can’t help them in anyway, they aren’t Underground Toys or Charcater Options! Not really a question, but I thought I’d make the statement anyway!

  • DOCTOR WHO ONE

    February 9th, 2013 - 9:30am

Having just read the previous comment by ‘The Monitor’, saying that Forbidden Planet advertise so much Doctor Who merchandise but don’t show all of it in their stores, which he said also frustrates Forbidden Planet’s staff who clearly are massive Doctor Who fan’s, it would seem to me that what we need is a new range of stores all over the UK [and perhaps abroad too if possible] that sell nothing but Doctor Who merchandise.

    • drjakeyoung

      February 9th, 2013 - 9:59am

exactly! You know what, in Banbury, which has about 100,000 people living in it, there are no toy/model/dvd(now HMV has shut down) and no forbidden planet stores. The only way i can get all this stuff is by going online!

    • booboo

      February 9th, 2013 - 10:06am

Same where i live, Cheltenham, we still have HMV but nothing scifi shop wise

Forbidden planet are only in large towns and have a very established internet business to back them up and give them buying power.

Running a shops costs a fortune in rent and business rates and so on

  • The Monitor

    January 31st, 2013 - 6:01pm

As a collector for 30 years, I can state that collecting today is more difficult than in the Wilderness Years of 1990-2004, because less and less shops stock Who now.

FPI must be chuffed to get exclusivity to 3Drs, but this is a shallow victory if poor sales mean no more new classic figures emerge.

FP advertise so much on their site, but so little arrives in the shops. It frustrates the staff too.

Wilco and Argos discontinued within the last 12 months. Smythes sell 1 item. TRU have had no new items for months.

Those silhouettes are cool but Peter Davison’s and Jon Pertwee’s look wierd, Pertwee looks like he has a teacake sitting on top of his hair and Davison is unrecognisable, looks more like a messy Patrick Troughton 😯

I like the vinyl stickers and the comic books, but why does the First Doctor’s look so computer generated ? ❓ And could they not have had the Doctor’s face on the head side of the coin ? Sheesh ! ❗

No we will not, he is playing William Hartnell, there has been no talk to any actors not even previous doctor who actors about the 50th anniversary special, David Bradley is playing Hartnell in a 90 min doctor who documentary…so its not the actual special and i doubt they cast his as the 1st in it either since he was in it in the first half of series 7

i would like to see all the missing episodes recovered in time for 50th anniversary so i can see power of the daleks , the daleks master plan , evil of the daleks , the massacre , the myth makers , mission to the unknown , the highlanders and much more released on dvd finally.

and i would love to know if the rumours are true that power of the daleks has been returned to bbc

    • Gordon

      January 10th, 2013 - 12:00am

Not going to happen. Considering how long people in the bbc have been looking (1978) for missing the odds of all eps turning up are virtually nil.Not saying there wont be any more finds just the odds of all of them turning up are virtually non existant

    • DoctorWhoFanOfManyYears

      February 2nd, 2013 - 12:16am

Also it was said by many of the doctor who team and bbc that some were thrown out and i’m guessing have been destroyed over time where they were dumped and other were erased so that they could record on the films for different tv shows

  • Baba

    January 4th, 2013 - 7:43pm

They should make a Blu-ray of the first ever Dr Who story in coluor like what they did with the DVD relaese in the U.N.I.T. files box set, in Invasion of the Dinosaurs the first part was in black & white but they re-colourd it.

Also they make a box set of Susan, The Doctor, Babra and ian.

    • Gordon

      January 9th, 2013 - 11:49pm

Difference is invasion of the dinosaurs was made in colour and was recoloured using chroma dot colour recovery. Colour recovery isnt possible on stories that were black and white stories. Manual colourising of all 4 episodes of unearthly child would take too long (babelcolour has took 18 months just to do 1 ep of mind of evil) plus its unlikely blu ray will do anything to improve the picture quality
