Doctor Who follows the adventures of the last Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who simply goes by the name “The Doctor”. At the end of the 2013 season, The Doctor regenerated into his new form and new personality, and is portrayed by legendary Scottish actor Peter Capaldi.

12th-doctor7501

This new incarnation, the Twelfth Doctor, is a spiky, brusque, pragmatic, yet funny, passionate and fearless character who travels with his companion, Clara Oswald. His adventures with (and without) Clara in the 2014 season lead him to make tough and ruthless decisions that make him question his character and the value of his travels.

This all new 5 inch tall figure showcases the new look The Doctor takes on after the regeneration, featuring his now signature dark blue Crombie-style coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a long collared white shirt buttoned to the top with no tie, and brogue boots. He also comes with his trusty sonic screwdriver.

So, does anyone know if there are going to be anymore of these than the ones we have already seen? Will we possibly get a new collectors wave that is reasonably priced? I’d love to see a new 5″ line run alongside the 3.75″ line! and even if this isn’t the case, i’d like to see a few box sets with new characters and new versions of older characters with better articulation and stuff like that! Anyone else thinks we might get anything like this??

getting conflicting views to be honest

I thought the curator set, clara and at least 2 12th Doctor’s may be marketed by Character as part of the new collectors series and available to all, now I’m not so sure.
we will have to wait for official info which is supposed to be “soon”.

      August 28th, 2015 - 12:04pm

Well i feel we at least deserve a few of the newer characters, such as Missy and maybe Danny, and i think they should release a DOTD set with an updated 10th doctor! its really strange how they just stopped doing the 5″ figures, they could have gradually phased them out or done a small wave per series that consists of about about 4-5 figures new figures and maybe a few remakes such as the doctor in different outfits and stuff, surly the companies that are making the figures should come on here and listen to what the fans want, i know the the smaller scale appeals more to kids as it fits in with other ranges and is probably cheaper to make but surly with the success of the 5″ exclusives they have released since the new scale was introduced, they can tell there is still a demand for the 5″ scale! they should just have two toy lines like most other toy lines do! look at things such as Marvel and Star Wars, they do great and appeal to both kids and collectors.

What people need to realise is that Character are a mass market manufacturer who sell to retailers who are not fans and are only interested in profit margins, price points and current market trends.

You could show them the best figure set in the world but if they dont order it you wont get it.

I believe the 5″ “new series” line stopped because of the knock on effect of the loss of Woolworths and the lack of Interest from other large retailers at the beginning of series 6 and what orders there were were made up of variants as not enough orders to warrant further investment basically.

The 5″ “classic line” was firmly in the hands of Underground toys and seemed OK but USA sales were week its been said and things seemed to grind to a holt.

The apatite worldwide seems to be strong enough for this new collectors range concentrating on the new series at first and as money has already been put into development of the 3.75 line such as Missy and the 8th Doctor these seem sure fire winners in 5″ to me.

As does a Cyberman with interchangeable Danny head – core collectors will buy 2 to have both on display

Also doctor Who will never come close to brands like star wars, that market is huge – if it were you would probably have 5″ figures coming out of your ears…

    • Stark42

      August 28th, 2015 - 1:19pm

yeah, i understand this and by no means am comparing the popularity of Doctor who to those other brands, i was merely suggesting that in my eye, if the companies were so bothered about making a large profit of these toy lines then it would make sense for them to make the newer small scale figures, which i can only assume are more popular than the 5″ figures as they are more sort after by children who can use them with other figures of the same scale, along side a collectors wave of a few figures each time which they can then charge a little more for as they know these figures sell looking at how popular the 5″ scale was, especially looking at NEW MOULD figures such as the war doctor or the new 11th doctor figure or the clara figure or the 12th doctor figure. I am simply saying that it would increase profits taking the same approach as Marvel and Star Wars as it covers both sides of the customer base, both those who like the smaller scale and larger scale and could even regain some of the customers that stopped buying these figures when the swapped to the smaller, worse quality smaller scale that are clearly aimed at children. i can see that you seem to think the Character are only out to make a profit, in which case, the system of using both scales would surly be something that they would be doing? it just makes sense from my point of view.

      August 28th, 2015 - 2:02pm

I believe the big problem here is that most new series figures (5″ and 3.75″) are sold as “impulse buys” with the 5″ having a core collectors market of a few thousand (which isn’t enough on its own )

Most high streets big and small had a Woolworth which you could walk into a buy figures at will, that’s gone with very little left unless you have FP or a good independent so they lost a huge “impulse buy” market. Argos yes but you have to view or take pot luck.

I live in a large town and apart form Argos there isn’t one store i can go into and buy a Doctor Who figure

With increasing costs what market was left was simply not big enough.

The 3.75″ line seems OK as its a safer, more pocket many price toy line that more shops and supermarkets seem willing to stock.

My believe is the collectors line will start with “safe” bets and if people buy into it they may get a little braver

It would be commercial suicide to invest 10’000s of thousands of pounds producing figures there may not be enough market for.

There is so much they have pitched to retailers in the past that they have not gone for and that’s the very reason you dont have a lot of what you looking for.

You would be amazed and what you might have got…

    • Stark42

      August 28th, 2015 - 2:31pm

yeah, i guess i see where you are coming from when you say they are impulse buys and i agree about woolworths which is a shame because i never liked the 3.75″ and i think a lot of collector would prefer to see more of the old scale figures come back. Lets just hope that with the new figures internet sales and stores that stock them sell out so that we can see more of the 5″ scale return! I was looking forward to the smaller scale when i saw the original concept art for them but seeing how awful they look in person and how low quality the are made me stop collecting all together, i think with the way the new 5′ figures are looking (with the exception of the 12th doctor who I’m hoping will look better than the promo pictures do) then we might get back to having a wave of new 5″ figures.

    • booboo

      August 28th, 2015 - 2:39pm

to be fair the 3.75 have got better but i can see why they wouldn’t appeal to collectors

I do think the 2nd Clara sculpt looks much better than the 3rd new one for some reason

the 12th Looks much better in hand, bit like Rory, pictures look nothing like but in hand its “Close”

    • Stark42

      August 28th, 2015 - 2:49pm

yeah, I was thinking the same thing when it came to the 12th doctor being like the Rory figure, this picture just makes it look like the 3.75″ figure which i personally think holds little to no resemblance, still pretty disappointing that the waistcoat isn’t included and that there is already 4 or 5 variants of the figure.

    • anon

      September 10th, 2015 - 2:12pm

In regard to the sales and other issues with the difference of the 5 inch and the 3.75 inch, personally i think that the newer smaller toys are unsuitable for for younger fans that collected the five inch range.

And from what i have seen, they are usually made quite loose as well. And one thing i am very annoyed at, is the fact that a lot of stiuff has been released in america before britain!

A police box is a instant recogniseable british object, yet america seems to get most of the merchandise first.

And from what i have read up on, america gets the series 8 finale in cinemas with the series 9 prequel after it, we dont!

All we get is the finale in two parts on bbc 3 and i have not seen any news regarding if we get the prequel or not!

It appears as though the bbc has sold out to america!

Thanks booboo, sorry it took me so long to reply. I think I will Pre-Order it from Big Bad Toy Store sometime next Week or over the Weekend as I can see this Figure easily being pushed back and delayed on Forbidden Planet International and after all the waiting we spent last year for The Impossible Set and The Time of The Doctor Set to reach the UK I think it would just make it easier and save time by ordering it from the US or AUS which will mean loads of Money on Shipping to the UK but at least I will have the Figure at least 2 Months before it arrives via Forbidden Planet International. Also this is the first 5″ Figure we’ve seen released since last October now and I’d like to get this as soon as possible.

So four waves of series 8 3.75 figures, and how many are actually from series 8, not including “variants”:

    1. The Doctor.
    2. Clara Oswald.
    3. The Foretold mummy.
    4. The Skovox Blitzer.
    5. Crooked Man (Hide set).
    6. Cherubs (Angels take Manhattan).
    7. Moving Rusty (into the Dalek set).

As for non series 8: tenth doctor, eleventh doctor, amy pond, dalek, dalek, dalek, dalek (ive never seen so many daleks!)

So for a lot of the characters from series 8, they only made several.

And Character Options are still in business….. Go figure

      August 13th, 2015 - 12:14pm

Crooked man an cherubs are from series 7

From series 8 we have :

      . The Twelfth Doctor (normal+caretaker)
      . Clara Oswald
      . The Foretold
      . Skovox Blitzer
      . Moving Rusty
      . Cyberman
      .

What we have coming from series 8 is :

. The Twelfth Doctor (ROS + KTM)
      . Clara Oswald (yellow jumper)
      . Missy
      . Rusty (normal)
      . Spider Bacteria
      . Cyberman (variant)
      . Skovox Blitzer (red eyes)

Not sure if I’ve missed anything

So basically we have 6 characters already released with 7 figures and 6 variants/alternate costumes on the way and two new figures on the way

They should go back to the 5 inch figures because 5 inch fans would be happy, 3.75 inch fans will most likely already collect 5 inch figures and kids would be fine with 5 inch figures. So it will sell better, even if they look cheap its better to have bad 5 inch figures than 3.75 inch figures that look bad.

If they do a new wave they should do

    WAVE 1 ( series 8 wave)

12th Doctor Caretaker outfit with mop and sonic
Clara Oswald, Time of the Doctor with Leaf
    Cyberman Danny Pink
    The foretold
    Half face man
Missy, with umbrella and that weapon she had

    WAVE 2 (series 7 wave)

    Cyberman NEW
    Zygon NEW
    Ice warrior NEW
    Whisperman
    The moment
    The great intelligence

And then mabye they could do some figures from other seasons that they missed out

    WAVE 3

Rose Tyler, Series 4 outfit with gun
    Wilf
Jackie Tyler, Journeys end with gun
Martha Jones, smith and Jones Doctor uniform
    Donna Noble, wedding dress
    The flood

    WAVE 4

The beast (Would work like the wearwolf due to size)
    Rose Tyler, the empty child
Donna Noble, Turn left/The stolen earth/Journeys end with trickster beetle
Rose Tyler, The idiots lantern with moterbike helmet and moterbike also faceless swapable head
    The trickster
    Son of mine with gun

    WAVE 5

11th Doctor Green coat with sonic
Clara Oswald, Day of the Doctor with The leaf and removeable jacket (like ace figure)
Amy Pond, The doctors wife with removeable jacket and you can put on the rebel flesh jacket (like the ace figure)
Rory Williams, roman outfit with sword and helmet
    headless monks
madame kovarion (Or whatever her name was)

    WAVE 6

Clara OSWIN Oswald, the snowmen bartender outfit with beer glass and tray
Clara OSWIN Oswald, The snowmen Governess outfit with umbrella
    Gunslinger
    Dalek skelliton
    snowman

Just had an idea, if this first wave is successful and we get more waves over time, maybe in the future character can do a similar thing to the marvel legends infinite series and have each figure in a respective wave come wi h a part of a collect and build figure, eg.
    *missy-wooden cyberman head

Thanks, or alternatively, they could just re release the whole vespiform wave
( I started watching who in 2010 and I’ve always been sad about missing that wave and about most of the RTD era stuff)

      never got the vespiform

like many we had already bought all the figures and couldn’t justify buying them all again

I have some of them but would be willing to buy them all again to complete the vespiform.
The sontarans, natural ood, vashta nerada, the adipose and the hath could be used for army building and I would kill for the supreme dalek and davros

How many petition signatures do u think we would need for CO to listen and re release the wave.

I can tell you they wont listen to any petitions as they don’t guarantee sales

I think that is a reasonable list, they will essentially do the ‘best of’ and they all seem to cover that. A wooden Cyberman is an obvious variant for them to produce too, since variants may carry this line, I hadn’t considered it before.

Good but I would love a Clara 5 inch figure

Instead of the glossy drone dalek, I would do a Clara in her TOTD outfit

I was going to say clara but I was trying to keep it realistic. Like many others I would love a PROPER clara but now that there is “official” easily produced clara figure, Im sure we won’t be seeing another on any time in the near future, besides, a proper AOTD drone is both wanted and very easily produced. A simple repaint

That’s a great idea only thing I would change is the torso from the NOTD 8 and replace it with the arm so the 2013 Cyberman would come with it’s torso and Eight would come with an arm

This costume actually showed up at the beginning of the caretaker when him and clara are chained up on an alien planet. He’s not wearing a cardigan or waistcoat 🙂

Pretty disappointed with this: Bad head sculpt, No waistcoat or cardigan and No red lining the only two good things about this figure is: The Sonic is closed and it’s a 5.5 inch figure. I am pretty disappointed… 🙁
