Doctor Who follows the adventures of the last Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who simply goes by the name “The Doctor”. At the end of the 2013 season, The Doctor regenerated into his new form and new personality, and is portrayed by legendary Scottish actor Peter Capaldi.

12th-doctor7501

This new incarnation, the Twelfth Doctor, is a spiky, brusque, pragmatic, yet funny, passionate and fearless character who travels with his companion, Clara Oswald. His adventures with (and without) Clara in the 2014 season lead him to make tough and ruthless decisions that make him question his character and the value of his travels.

This all new 5 inch tall figure showcases the new look The Doctor takes on after the regeneration, featuring his now signature dark blue Crombie-style coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a long collared white shirt buttoned to the top with no tie, and brogue boots. He also comes with his trusty sonic screwdriver.

I’m sorry but this looks horrible. The 3 3/4 inch one looks awful and so does this prototype! i stopped collection these because of the 3 3/4 scale range! why didn’t they just update the time of the doctor head sculpt?! at least that slightly resembled the actor.

I was told that Al Dewar said the Curator set will cost around £25-£30 because of the painting. I think it should include the 11th Doctor from Time of the Doctor.
Anyway does anyone know a likely release date yet?

Seeing the two side-by-side makes you want to forget about the 5″ not having a waistcoat.

The more I visit this page, the more I see Capaldi in the sculpt.
However, I am forgetting about it until we actually see the sculpt in person.
One factor is the scan and sculpt, the other is the paint apps.
I can also see which facial expression they were trying to capture.

There might need to be some initial patience with this 5″ reboot.
I am happy something is finally available and all will be revealed in October

When did the Doctor give his sonic to River? It’s a modified version of the 10th Doctor’s, but the only two he had in that style were S1-S2 and S2-S5.

They haven’t “shown” it, but they did show him about to give it to her, it was the Eleventh Doctor so you aren’t going to be seeing it now.

I’m still quite disappointing about the lack of waistcoat here, but, strange and pedantic as it is this costume does feature on screen, in the first mere couple of seconds of “The Caretaker” when the Doctor and Clara are tied up. In the long shot you can see that the Doctor is not wearing a waistcoat or cardigan over his white shirt. So at least the figure is screen accurate in some respects… to a combination of outfit that is literally seen on screen for about four seconds… Oh well, it’s still nice to have 🙂

I’m hoping the “black outfit” turns out to be The Doctor’s blue shirt from Time Heist. I know some people mistakenly say it’s black in the story and it’d be nice to have all four variants screen accurate.

It’s not mistaken at all. The shirt is definitely black. http://i1.cdnds.net/14/38/618×412/uktv-doctor-who-time-heist-02.jpg

I say its black or a weird grey colour.

    • The Foretold

      July 24th, 2015 - 10:45pm

It’s definitely blue. It does appear darker, almost black / grey in shots, but it’s absolutely blue. If Character were to release a black shirt variant, then they’d be attempting to do the jumper on the cheap, like The Caretaker 3.75″ figure. They would not be attempting to do a Time Heist variant.

    • The Foretold

To be more specific, it’s a navy blue Paul Smith shirt.

    • Anonymous

      July 26th, 2015 - 12:07am

Technically, it is accurate because it looks black in the story, even you can’t deny that,it may be blue but watching the story without looking into it, I’m pretty sure everyone thought it was black and CO/Underground toys probably believe it to be black as well seeing as it appears black or a dark grey in virtually all photos available

Doesn’t look too bad, would look better with the waistcoat, but we’ve all come to that conclusion by now! I think I’ll get the Sherwood version, I’d probably have gotten it over this figure even if it had the waistcoat as the ROS costume is my 2nd favourite costume! (1st being the red coat from series 9)

It all quite promising to be honest.
I get which face expression they chose and it needs to be seen properly.
      Its a reboot.

Perhaps some more promo pics/marketing would have helped and maybe if they had made the other variants available for pre-order sooner.
This is clearly the most controversial of the intended line.
This said, again better to start with the weakest contender and build up perhaps?

Unsure, but liking the enthusiasm 🙂

they only scan the head, both figures are a digital downscale of capaldi’s actual face

    • wholords2

      July 22nd, 2015 - 10:14pm

The whole figures looks like an upscale version of the 3.75″ 12th doctor, but using the shirt mould from the caretaker but with additional articulation
You can tell because all the creases are the same

    • Bruno B

      July 23rd, 2015 - 8:04am

Yes, that’s because both the 3.75″ and 5″ versions use the same Capaldi scan. With digital sculpting, you start as a bigger scale (Peter Capaldi) and then you downscale to whichever scale you want, not the other way around.

Upscaling a smaller figure when you’ve got the real deal available would be counterproductive.

I think it looks good and is a reasonable price. I would have personally opted to do a hand sculpted head for the Twelfth Doctor rather than a digital scan of Peter Capaldi. He is such an emotive Doctor that I think it’d be best to sculpt from screencaps.

Many of us are hoping the face will be better in person.
It is clear which face expression they tried to capture but there are elements of Capaldi’s age, characteristics and other face expressions which might not have rendered this the best version.

That said we haven’t really seen it yet.
Also, certain details might have been captured but these things can be spoiled by the paint apps.

I have pre ordered mine, wait in hope and also despite mixed opinion feel that on this occasion a measure of patience might be required with this reboot.

      Ultimately, I am after a Capaldi 😀

I would use acrylic paint which you can get from ‘the works’ for around £4 for a big tube of one colour of paint. For the waistcoat, I would use the spare waistcoat that came with the time of the doctor set and then I would sand it down. Hope this helps:)

I have all the other 5” figures, and have ordered two of the new 12th Doctor figures – I have a couple of spare Capaldi heads from the ‘Time of the Doctor’ set [I bought three, to have the different figures], and will replace the head on one of the new figures. If it is a new sculpt, I might not – but the current 3.75 inch 12th Doctor looks to me, more like Steven Moffat than Peter Capaldi. If I don’t have to change the head, then I shall convert one to the ‘holey jumper’ look.

When I saw the first few pictures, I didn’t even notice the lack of waistcoat and it didn’t make any difference to me. After seeing the official image though, I do notice that something looks missing but the Twelfth Doctor’s outfit is already quite minimalist looking anyway and you can only see the actual red lining if it’s flicked open in certain positions such as the first promo picture, plus I first assumed he just unbuttoned the whole outfit.
