5.5″ B&M 2017 Collectors Set The Monsters

To find your nearest store visit www.bmstores.co.uk. Please ring (option 3) to check availability before travelling. Priced at £16.99 per set. Product code 294255

This 5.5″ figure set is presented in collectors series window box packaging.

The Monster set contains…

  • Cyber Controller
  • Attack Cyberman
  • Sontaran Skorr

This second B&M exclusive Monsters Set contains The Cyber Controller from the 1967 Patrick Troughton story The Tomb of the Cybermen, A Cyberman from the 1985 Colin Baker story Attack of the Cybermen and Sontaran Skorr from the 2008 David Tennant stories The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky.

Accessories include a laser rifle and helmet with Sontaran Skorr and a Cyber Gun with the Attack Cyberman.

The new Cyber Controller (left) is a slight variant the original Build a Figure where individual parts were supplied in the “age of Steel wave”.

The face is a darker grey and the figure now has a silver rim below the brain section, the decoration on the brain is also slightly more obvious on this new version.

The “Attack” Cybeman (centre) is a combination of the Earthshock and Rogue Cyberman with appropriate paint application. The gun also has a different paint application. All in all i think most people would see this as an unreleased and new figure.

Sontaran “Skorr” is essentially a re-named re-release although he can either come with a rank insignia badge of 3 (Commander) or 5 (General) in this set. The badge is on the collar below the helmet line.

Ended up coming across another store today by chance and it was packed with sets compared to the other one, I think there was about eight all together. So picked up this set and now I’ve got all the ones I need!

Booboo my set came with a lot of quality control issues, such as the cyber controller missing pipes, do you know if there’s anyone I can email or contact about this as I don’t live near the store I purchased these from.

No I didn’t. The main fault is that the K-9 figure has been coloured in with a sharpie!!

I opened my set this morning and realized that the number of spikes on my Sontaran Skorr’s ID tag is actually five instead of the three that I have seen in other people’s pictures of the figure. I’m not sure if this is just mine but it’s odd all the same and adds to the confusion that this figure isn’t what it’s labelled as on the packaging.

Managed to pick up this set in Huddersfield today! Only one monster set on the shelf, but they had 3 each of the 4th and 9th Doctor sets? Chuffed that I managed to get hold of this, cos I never got the Earthshock Cyberman first time around, or the Cybercontroller…hurrah!

The sontaran in this set is exclusive. The black badge on the neck represents rank. So far the releases have been the Christopher Ryan head with 5 spikes or Dan Starkey with 3. This is Ryan with 3, meaning it is more accurate to the sontaran in ‘The Pandorica opens’ than the one in the underhenge set. It is not a plain re-release, it means you can have commanders with different heads serving a general or field marshal.

I’d love a bronze Dalek figure where you can turn the gun and plunger a full 360 degrees independently from the head and body as seen in the episode ‘Dalek’.

    • The Outcast

      July 24th, 2017 - 1:09pm

Dalek Collectors set 3 would be awesome!
      (IDEA) Could include:
Dalek drone (the Dalek Invasion of Earth)
Suicide Dalek (Destiny of the Daleks)
      Supreme Dalek (Remembrance)

Either that or one of the Daleks is a standard bronze NuWho one instead.

In a photo I saw of series 9 behind the scenes photo with a red peter cushing Dalek. Could have That?

    • The Outcast

      July 24th, 2017 - 1:54pm

It didn’t appear on screen so I don’t think they’ll do it, but it would be cool. I really want an Imperial Dalek, but they scrapped the moulds apparently. 🙁

Beats me why they scrapped that and kept the old Rose mould, but hey, that’s life ain’t it.

    • platon29

      July 24th, 2017 - 6:05pm

Outcast, that would actually be a really good set considering that this set has the collect and build cyber controller. The rare figures maybe should come back in these packs.

    • mrcrazyesque

      July 24th, 2017 - 6:41pm

I think the reason they don’t have the correct imperial dalek mould anymore is because they modified it for that TRU 7th Doctor and renegade set.

    • The Outcast

      July 25th, 2017 - 10:49am

But why wouldn’t you keep a back up of the slats?
I still want an Imperial Dalek.

    • The Legend Doctor

      August 2nd, 2017 - 3:23pm

Wasnt it only the supreme imperial that was scrapped?

  • Exterminator

    July 24th, 2017 - 12:18pm

I think I’m going to have to get this set just for the attack Cyberman, it’ll look great next to the black stealth version.

I already have the build version of the cyber controller and I’m so annoyed they didn’t make this a Cyberman triple pack. A clear version ‘ghost’ Cyberman instead of the sontaran would’ve been very cool.

I got myself the original ‘Cyber Controller’ figure on eBay. It’s the only figure in these sets I really wanted. I just couldn’t be bothered looking round B&M stores for the ‘Monster Set’. Knowing full well it would be the most popular set, and the one most difficult to purchase. I’m more than happy with the original ‘build it’ Cyber Controller.

Just got the Monster set and the 4th Dr set from the Grimsby store. I’ll get the 9th Dr set next week.

I’m extremely happy with them. Every single figure is far superior to it’s previous release with the way the paint jobs have been applied. Leela especially. Her skin and clothes are so much neater than her first release and the joints are a lot more stable. Same to be said for the 4th Dr.
And the classic K9…WOAH!! He looks fantastic! They’ve even painted the window/screen on his other side white. He no longer includes a removable panel or “pull back and go” feature. but this is for the better as it feels less like a toy and more like a proper model.
The Cyberman is lovely. Brilliant paint etc. Sontaran seems much more detailed in the face from it’s last release. They’ve given him a better face application to really highlight the wrinkles. And the Cyber Controller is without a doubt 100% better now. The brain detailing stands out much more. Almost has a 3D effect to it.

If CO were to re-release more figures like this, with updated paint apps then i’d be all for more re-releases!

I hear you, although I found that all three of last year’s sets hung around in my local store (St Neots) for a long time, so I assumed the appetite for DW figures amongst the general public is low, and maybe it will be similar this year, after the initial rush by collectors. I’d bought all last years as soon as I saw them, despite not really being able to afford it, but it turned out that wasn’t necessary in the end.
