I have to ask, does anyone know at all if the Rose figure has the brown and blonde mixed hair colour or the bright blonde?

Hope its the brown/blonde version as its a while lot better than the latter.

As with the other sets, the figure choices here seem ripe for repaints which would have been incredibly simple.

The Auton could have been repainted a variety of colours, but most easily the main Auton used for publicity photos with the black jacket and bright purple shirt – the version released as part of the figurine collection a year or so back.

As for the Ninth Dr, we could finally have a non exclusive green jumper version (perhaps removing the seam lines painted onto the jumper of that version to make it still stay exclusive and just paint the jumper a straight green?). Or, the one we probably all wished it was – an accurate navy blue jumper from Aliens of London.

Rose is a little more difficult. They could repaint the trousers black with a red and black hoodie from The Long Game? The hair and some sculpting would be inacccurate but this technique worked well enough with Jo from last year. Or, if they literally want a straight repaint of that costume and a similar ‘disco dancing’ pose – take a look at the cover of the novel The Deviant Strain. On that she’s wearing that exact costume, in a similar pose to what the figure was based on from those first publicity images, but the hoodie has been photoshopped a turquoise green. Another incredibly easy variant, which also at least gives us some reason as to why it would still be in the pose of the ‘disco dancing’ version.

      Hi Ryan.

Its not so simple to do repaints. or as cheap as people may think. Before any changes could take place, the BBC would need to sign off on them, and before that, Colours need to be mixed in large enough batches , and if its not right on a test batch, more time and expense goes into getting it A right and B approved.

These are Bargains and Merchandise Exclusives. Bargains. being the main word here. So get some new production figures done (no one keep that much stock in the factory for these to be original versions) get pain patern 5 already cleared and used previously. and bam …some cheaper figures for 3 in a box. Mr Cyberman seems to have had minimal fixings to him, so its all done to keep the costs down.

I do hope that these figures sell in enough quantaties, simply because Doctor who on the High street, is a Brand that needs to be seen and selling (toys r us got stung on 3.75s and bits and bob, and the Entertainer hardly ever had them after Lazlo) The reason they are not on the high street is the Profit margin, With places like FP or Galaxy four taking the hight streets place (oh and the who shop) so the high street loses the DW sapce and fills it with something else . They (the shops) dont need Doctor who, Doctor who needs the shops. Underground has been bought by Funko .

Its tough market place with some tough costs to have these landed in the UK from China. Hench £16.99 rrp

I totally understand here that these are designed to be cheap re-releases of existing products – I shall be purchasing them all as I have done since the range started. I love them all and don’t take them for granted, but I merely wanted to offer some slight alternatives after many fans were completely delighted with the two repainted versions of the Third Dr and Jo from last years sets, and were of course wondering if there could be any more of those types of figures here. It’s just a shame the market for Who has changed so much since the early days of the range – but it’s something that has to be worked around I guess.

    • booboo

      July 13th, 2017 - 8:34am

I could well be the 3rd Doctor and Jo were destined for some other cancelled set so the work on paint masks etc had already been done.

There are still several figures on “that picture” that we have never seen but don’t know if the tooling was done

would be good to see some of those turn up one day like Korwin did in the Tescos set

    • WouldYouLikeAJellyBaby?

      July 13th, 2017 - 10:26am

If that’s the case then I’d really like to see the Fourth Doctor in tartan from Terror of The Zygons and the Seventh Doctor in dufflecoat from Curse of Fenric get released, depending on whether the tooling was finished. I hope we see that cancelled Destiny of The Daleks Fourth Doctor variant that was due to be released in the two-pack instead of the Genesis variant too but I’m not sure how far that went into production before it was cancelled.

@Ryan, I think u mean rose from the covers of either the mobsters inside or winter takes all, I don’t think the cover of the the deviant strain is the same jacket, I think it was grey in the original image, or it might even be from the empty child, based on her hairstyle.

Also booboo, I’m sure that on the ‘poster’ the Invasion of the Dinosaurs Third Dr was there, but with his grey tartan cape from the episode, which I imagine was omitted from the B and M set due to cost, but it was nice to finally get it. I really hope we get the Tartan Tom or Peg Doll one day.

Thanks Boo Boo. I reckon I’ll be going round many of the B&M stores in at the end of the month, just to try and find the ‘Monsters’ set. Probably be the equivalent to a pub crawl, but without the drink…or the figures! I really want that Cyber Controller as I didn’t get the collect and build set. I was a late collector to the figure collecting party. Only started collecting the figures in 2012…and ‘Tomb of the Cybermen’ is a favourite story of mine.

It doesn’t work like that. They don’t jus text have random figures lying around the warehouse that they decide to bundle into a set. All of the figures will be newly made from the sculpts that they’ve had since 2004/5.

What’s more likely is that they’re trying to make use of a sculpt that they still have rather than just not using it.

this site and other toy forums are generally frequented by collectors who have most things or have been collecting for a while

These “budget” collectors sets are not aimed at those people but rather casual or new collectors as well as impulse buys

Anything tweeked or a variant is basically a bonus

the fact these are in their 4th year shows they work

Despite my hopes for that unreleased Prototype Rose figure to have been the included in this set, I can’t help but feel nostalgic when I see this set.
It’s quite nice seeing this figure again along with the Auton from when I was a lot younger and walking into big Toy stores or Woolworths and seeing them on the pegs and in those battle packs with 2 Daleks.

    • Judooning

      July 6th, 2017 - 10:18am

All the series 1 Auton figures were able to swivel the tips of their fingers to represent the gun hand. Not entirely screen accurate and they were prone to snapping off. But hopefully the quality of these will be a bit better as is usually the case in these newer release figures.

Judooning, i can remember those times as well. I was twelve years old when they first came out. Im sure my first ever figure was Rose and David Tennant was my first Doctor figure. Trouble is (i am sure your aware of this) a lot of companies have dropped the Doctor Who brand. With no new series until at least 14 months time are they really going to be encouraged to take it up? Character can barley manage to get any figures from any current series out on time, anything from s10 will probably be next year….if they make any. Also unlikely to get new classics.
