Character Doctor Who 12″ Remote Dalek Re-Release

With Thanks to Darren who purchased this in his local store.

Purchased at £49.99 in Asylum style packaging, looks a little Darker and more Matt finish than the original release.

Originally due September. At least one store appears to have had an early delivery (they only had one).

Features…

  • 8 Dalek Phrases
  • Flashing lights and speech
  • Motorised Dalek movement
  • Poseable gun and arm
  • Illuminated eye
  • Handset with dual stick movement control

It is unlikely we will be posting our own images of this Dalek as in the past.

Just saw 3 of these in my local B&M this afternoon but not seen them there before – not sure how much they were as no price on the shelf – Wonder if they still have some old stock to shift?

I have been visiting B&M every month and taking one up to the till as there is never a price. I live near Fareham and the stocks have been up and down, 1,0,3,0,2. The 2 in there on Saturday, one appeared to be missing its protuberance card. On checking the complete one at the till it was £35, so, with no space for it whatsoever, I bought it as a form of closure. It does not have the window where you can press a roundel for a phrase. One way or another this is a proper permutation and certainly worth it for £35.

In an age of diminishing Doctor Who outlets, we should be grateful for B&M. It is a pretty good shop anyway for other things.

Got this for Xmas, I assumed the ID tag beneath the eye would be the same as the Asylum ‘Oswin’ Dalek, but it’s actually that of the original 12″ gold dalek release, which I think is a great attention to detail – especially for a B&M release.

I’m tempted to get this as I had a Radio Controlled Dalek Sec when I was younger but it’s eyestalk broke. The only things that put me off it are the fact it’s 12″ and I don’t have much space for it in my room, also it’s expensive. Maybe when it’s reduced if it’s still around that is.

I’m still waiting for the orange paradigm Dalek to be made, that’d be a better choice for a repainted as it’s the only one missing. That & the Ironside Dalek, both would compliment my collection nicely.

Yes, that’s definitely a shame. The new Dalek’s were quickly phased out though so I guess it’s no surprise they won’t make the last one…, I’ll just have to attempt a custom version for my display then. 🙂

Has the Dalek body been re-proportioned since the first 12″ Daleks were released? I have one of the original bronze releases.

It was re-proportioned for the Supreme Dalek and Davros but has since reverted back to the original sculpt.

    • Demdike@CultLabs

      July 16th, 2017 - 12:18pm

No, it’s the correct proportions now. The original sculpt was scrapped after the first line.

    • Jordan Scott

      July 16th, 2017 - 2:23pm

No that was the 5″ line, the 12″ line is still the same sculpt as the original release. I can guarantee that as I’ve got the original bronze and asylum Daleks here and they’re identical in shape.

would probably cost way to much for a complete redesign and print run over an already established design for this type of product

  • Pusher

    July 15th, 2017 - 6:46pm

Damn, it has the same ID tag as the first ever RC dalek, the one with the gold lower collar. So the Id tag is slightly inaccurate. I would’ve liked one from asylum which was on the dalek which Rory wakes up next to which has only a gun It seems easier to print as the details are scarce.

That prototype is much more accurate. This one has the very flared skirt and looks a bit too / angled to what it should be like, but it’s still a great design 12 years on.

So it’s the Asylum Dalek without the weathering which is good as we now have a standard accurately coloured dalek. However I’m annoyed that it doesn’t have the collectors packaging, this is very inconsistent and will confuse potential customers.

Well I do know my local one is a major store so I think it will most likely get a few of them. You think they will get reduced over time?

    • booboo

      July 15th, 2017 - 4:23pm

the cynic in me thinks a few odd ones are being sold at £49.99 so they can be “reduced” as a sale item when the main stock arrives.

Tesco used to do that with their 3 figures sets and Argos did it with the into the Dalek set

      time will tell

    • prototype dalek

      July 15th, 2017 - 4:46pm

    • Jack

      July 16th, 2017 - 10:45am

Do you reckon they’ll do the same with the 3 packs, or do you think they will stay at £16.99 for a while?

    • booboo

      July 16th, 2017 - 10:48am

I don’t know they will do it with the Daleks, they tend to reduce the 3 packs when stock is nearing its end to clear them, that’s assuming they have any left of course

  • Omega63

    July 15th, 2017 - 12:57pm

The fact that they’re reusing old packaging and branding is rather dreadful. I get it may be in some way cheaper, but the box art is different. Doctor Who needs to get it’s branding pattern to be iconic, and sorted quickly. The Collector Series design is distinct and sets off the shelf, it needs to be used universally on all Doctor Who products in the same way the 2006 design was used.

Look at the 1993 Jurassic Park toy line, they all followed the same branding pattern and the iconography was clear. Same with Doctor Who 2006-2008.

So this retails at £50? I don’t know how they can justify that price, even the paradigm daleks were like £30 at the time, just seems a little steep for something that’s not really a new variant.

as one or two stores have had this early, it reminds me of the “into the Dalek set”

      if you get my meaning

    • Omega63

      July 15th, 2017 - 12:54pm

So you expect that it is just put at a higher price so they can claim it’s reduced in the near future?

    • booboo

I have no idea, but it might explain it, or they have just sold some early sets sent a head of the main delivery
