Day Of The Doctor/ Time Of The Doctor CD Soundtrack

Available to order from www.amazon.co.uk

2013 was an epochal year for Doctor Who and the two specials reflected the series monumental impact as a British cultural icon.

The Day Of The Doctor celebrated the 50th anniversary of the series with a story that weaved in many references to its distinguished past and was transmitted to 94 countries, the largest ever simulcast for a TV drama.

The Time Of The Doctor in the now traditional Christmas Day slot showcased the departure of Matt Smith and Peter Capaldis debut as the twelfth Doctor.

With this 2 CD release, Murray Golds best-selling music for the series extends the catalogue to nine years of superbly crafted themes from uplifting and exciting to reflective and melancholic.

It takes danger and quickens the pulse. It takes adventures through time and space with a mad man in a box and ” somehow ” makes it all seem even more weird and wonderful than it already is ” Radio Times

I’m curious. Why, since the Season 5 soundtrack vae we not had any updated theme tunes on the cds.(11’s theme was absent completely on the 50th Anniversary cd) 11th Doctor has had tweaks and there was a new arrangement at the end of DotD. Surely it’s not a right’s issue. Any chance you can query this Booboo ?

    Yay!!!
Disc 1 Track 22 I presume is the “saving Gallifrey” scene.
Disc 2 Track 3 sounds… interesting. (at least there isn’t a video to accompany it though)

      I think you’re right with Disc 1 Track 22.

The music starts off with an original song for the final scene in the barn, IIRC, and then blends into a lovely version of The Majestic Tale during the saving Gallifrey sequence.

Always been a fan of Murray’s work, so I’ll be getting this.
However, I didn’t think there was very much new music throughout these two specials. I thought it was sort of a collection of tracks from the past. On which note, it does seem to be quite “reprisey”. Oh well, I’ll be getting it anyway!

Starting to wonder why the opening and closing title music keeps being omitted from the Soundtracks, they’ve not stuck them in since the series 5 soundtrack.

Each time the use a Theme tune they have to pay copyright for it. Plus the track might take up space if both CDs are heading for the 75 min limit that seems to be the optimum length

      October 28th, 2014 - 9:40pm

Thanks for the explanation, seems a shame that we’ve missed out on the series 7b theme tune and the awesome remix used for the Day of the Doctor closing titles, still looks a great soundtrack.

      October 31st, 2014 - 8:19am

That’s fine if it’s using the same version already released but 11’s theme has been updated since season 5 and there was a whole new arrangement at the end of DotD. These should be included. Also, 11’s thee was missing completely from the 50th Anniversary cd set

23rd is a sunday , when nothing is “released” So 24th is the nearest, although most of these items get released on a thursday…and I imagine like all DVD/Blu Ray/Books/CD`s a pre order will be despatched to arrive on the Monday 24th or possibly the Saturday before .

The soundtracks aren’t normally released on a Thursday. At least, the series 7 & The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe/The Snowmen ones weren’t. They were both released on a Monday.
