Doctor Who The Reign of Terror DVD

Release date: 28/01/2013

The TARDIS materialises not far from Paris in 1794 – one of the bloodiest years following the French Revolution of 1789.

The travellers become involved with an escape chain rescuing prisoners from the guillotine and get caught up in the machinations of an English undercover spy, James Stirling – alias Lemaitre, governor of the Conciergerie Prison.

The Doctor – posing as a Regional Officer of the Provinces – is twice brought before the great tyrant, Robespierre himself, and has to talk himself out of trouble.

Ian and Barbara, meanwhile, have a close encounter with a future ruler of France, Napoleon Bonaparte. As events reach their climax, Robespierre is overthrown – shot in the jaw and dragged off to the prison – and the Doctor and his friends slip quietly away.

The Reign of Terror was originally released on VHS in a box set along with The remaining episodes of The Faceless ones and the Web of Fear…

Whilst trying to return to London in the 1960′s, the TARDIS instead takes The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan to France in the eighteenth century.

The travellers realise that they’ve arrived in the middle of the French revolution – a period in history that saw the French nobility and their supporters overthrown.

Ian, Barbara and Susan are arrested as traitors, and locked in the concierge prison where Ian learns from a dying prisoner about the mysterious spy James Stirling.

Barbara and Susan are sentenced to be executed , but are rescued before arriving at the guillotine.

The Doctor takes on the disguise of a senior revolutionary, and has to outwit Robespierre, the leader of the revolution, in order to try and reunite himself with his companions. But as treachery and .double-dealing abound, who can be trusted…? This story was broadcast on BBC between 8 August 12 September 1964.

This story will have its missing episodes animated. Some test shots are shown below.

I was wondering, and l know this is a rather a late post. (Even though in Australia we only just received copies of The Reign of Terror a couple of days ago) but l was wondering whether in the future given telesnaps and photos exist from the missing episodes will they be released in the Photo Gallery? because even though The Reign of Terror has no Telesnaps it would be good to see all surviving footage released somehow for perhaps the future releases of The Crusade, The Tenth Planet, The Underwater Menace, The Moonbase and The Ice Warriors.

    • Posted by: Lachlan February 9th, 2013

also if there are to be future animated releases how will they continue releasing them with the fact being that they will only be selling Animated Material l mean i don’t think further Special Edition Releases will be able to fill in the gaps in between that although l think 3 or 4 Special Edition Releases are all coming out in a row this year so it might not be a problem…

I’ve just watched this today and I really like the story actually however I prefer the animation style of “The Invasion”.
    Anyone else agree?

    • Posted by: gordon January 31st, 2013

The fast cutting does take some getting used to. It does calm down on ep 5.

    • Posted by: Some bloke February 1st, 2013

yh I do prefer the animation on invasion, but as the animated stories go on it does get better. Especially at the beginning of episode 4, the shots are all over the place, with in a gap of 5 seconds, they have put in a shot of a characters eyes, a front on shot of them speaking, them moving to a fire place and then a shot of the eyes again. Its sort of all over the place at first but then as it goes along, you think ‘yeah this isn’t that bad’ Id give it a 7 out of 10! :)

    • Posted by: A. Walters February 2nd, 2013

I mean don’t get me wrong, I am really happy they are being animated at all! However I just felt all those shots all over the place distracted from what was actually going on and made it a bit hard to follow. But as you guys say it does calm down. Although I think I even prefer the drawing style on “the invasion”. The way they often used animated characters over semi-photographic backgrounds, was sometimes quite beautiful! Hopefully they learnt from it for the ice warriors but I’m not going to hold my breath.

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung February 2nd, 2013

it is the same sort of distraction as watching a movie with subtitles (where you try and watch the move but try and concentrate on the subtitles at the same time)

    • Posted by: A. Walters February 2nd, 2013

In a way yes but I’m sure people will have a different definition of the word distraction when it comes to tv. For me you’re trying to keep up with the animation and keep up with it to such an extent that I lost track of the audio and what was going on verbally. Not for very long though as the other commenters above have said. It’s just a little niggily detail.

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung February 2nd, 2013

agree with you there. In a way i kinder prefer the “invasion” animation, but if there are going to be future animations then i guess we will have to get used to it.

    • Posted by: A. Walters February 3rd, 2013

True. We should be grateful they are being animated at all. It’s just a shame Cosgrove Hall went under. The new animators could still learn a thing or two from “the invasion” though. Cosgrove Hall seemed to position their shots in a way that probably would have been used originally on the actual TV show, however the new animators seem to go beyond that in an attempt to make it more visually interesting like the quick close up jumps to people’s eyes etc and all it does in reality is distract.

Received my copy today. As a selling point I was most amused by the sticker on the front -

    “Features 2 Exclusive Animated Episodes”

One would think they had thrown away these episodes? Oh, wait the BBC did throw them away…

Need help people! If you had to pick between the Mara Tales or UNIT Files which would you pick?

    • Posted by: celestial toymaker January 28th, 2013

      unit files definitely

    • Posted by: Blake January 28th, 2013

      Yep, unit files

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung January 28th, 2013

      agree with unit files

    • Posted by: KORSAIR January 28th, 2013

Yep,go for unit,I would as Kinda and Snakedance are two of my least favourite stories.

    • Posted by: Alex Noonan January 28th, 2013

Wow! This is suprisingly, especially given the apparent ‘duff’ status of Invasion of the Dinosaurs and the apparent amazingness of Kinda!

    • Posted by: Lachlan January 28th, 2013

l always watch stories before l buy them on dvd in the case of Mara Tales or Unit Files The Android Invasion is a classic and one of my favourite stories, Kinda and Snake dance are generally considered as out there Doctor Who from what l know

    • Posted by: gordon January 29th, 2013

I love kinda as its somewhat unique and it does benefit from repeated viewings but not so much snakedance which i feel is a bit of a retread in places.

I always think invasion of the dinos get a bad rap as the dinos are are very poor. I like the story even though the effects are poor. Android invasion is enjoyable even though there are a lot of plot holes.

I would go for unit files

    • Posted by: Some bloke January 29th, 2013

what are the plot holes in android gordon?

    • Posted by: Anonymous January 29th, 2013

I know I’m not Gordon, but it’s basically the ending. It doesn’t really explain most of the stuff that happens(this was because they had no time to film it)and is very rushed. Apart from that it is a very good episode.

oh yeah i remember now, they spoke about it in the making of thing on the dvd, i think.
Its my number one favourite episode ever!

  5. Posted by: gordon January 26th, 2013 Reply

watched ep4. The background looks lovely and is a step up from the invasion. The charcters look great but the glassy eyes look does take some getting used to. The editing style is going to be something controversial. A lot of fast cutting and fast shots which i feel makes the eps stand out when comparing with the existing episodes. I dont mind it myself but some others will have a grievence with.I did notice 1 or 2 errors but as a first attempt its very good. I do feel they will learn and in future hopefully bring the editorial style in line

    • Posted by: Some bloke January 27th, 2013

cool! thanks for the little review gordon. Mine should hopefully come monday, so i’ll be watchin it then :)

  6. Posted by: Alex Noonan January 21st, 2013 Reply

GUYS! I have logical proof they are animating The Tenth Planet Episode 4 and Episodes 2 and 3 of The Ice Warriors!

In Issue 449 of Doctor Who Magazine there is an article called “Infomania!” about the Subtitle Production Notes provided on DVD releases of COMPLETE Doctor Who serials.

At the bottom of the article, in the list called “Who Wrote That?” it lists Stephen James Walker as writing The Tenth Planet notes and Martin Wiggins for The Ice Warriors. These notes would not be provided if they were just doing reconstructions! PROOF.

    • Posted by: hobbit dalek January 21st, 2013

well done sir now hopefully in the future more doctor who will be animated

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous January 21st, 2013

I’m sorry but I doubt that’s ‘proof’. Why wouldn’t they have production notes if they had a reconstruction rather than animation?

    • Posted by: Alex Noonan January 21st, 2013

Lost in Time did not have Production Notes whereas the animated releases of The Invasion and The Reign of Terror has Production Notes that treat the animation as if it where the actual episodes…

    • Posted by: gordon January 21st, 2013

I heard the reign of terror animated eps dont have production notes (down to the production notes being done well in advance before the animation was available). Ice warriors and tenth planet are probably refering to the existing eps

    • Posted by: doctor where January 22nd, 2013

guys why do you bring it down all the time let pepole have there say come on

    • Posted by: Alex Noonan January 22nd, 2013

Well the episodes of The Invasion have them… I guess we’ll see. I’ve had The Reign of Terror pre-ordered for two weeks so bring on next week!

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous January 22nd, 2013

      I believe that eps 4 & 5 don’t have production subtitles.

doctor where: I understand your point and I didn’t mean to sound rude (apologies if that’s the case) but equally I don’t want people to get their hopes up for something that is not guaranteed.

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung January 22nd, 2013

@MasterKasterborous do you live in the UK or in Australia?

    • Posted by: gordon January 23rd, 2013

@alex Noonan That was down to completed animation for invasion being avalible quite far in advance when the production subtitles were being made. In the case of reign of terror they were done mid to late 2011 (long before animation was available to use as a reference). If Nicholas Pegg had waited till the eps had been available there wouldnt have been time to do the research and the necessary work required for the 2 eps

    • Posted by: Andy February 6th, 2013

In reply to Alex… “These notes would not be provided if they were just doing reconstructions! PROOF.” They have episodes 1-3 for the Tenth Planet and episodes 1,4,5,6 for the Ice Warriors to do production notes for. Nothing to say they have written any for the missing ones and no production notes on the animated Regin episodes so you’ll just have to wait and see like the rest of us.

Pre ordering this latter on. Tell me (anyone), is it worth pre ordering this now or buying it when it comes out on DVD to increese sale figures?

    • Posted by: gordon January 21st, 2013

Pre order sales are taken into concideration when looking at sales figures

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung January 21st, 2013

cool, because i just pre ordered this and also brought the complete specials box set.

  8. Posted by: Lachlan January 17th, 2013 Reply

I’m pretty sure Sales for this story will go well as it has surviving footage that hasn’t been released in any form on DVD yet, l think at the moment the Animation Releases will go well don’t get me wrong but there’s bound to be a good many amount of people who will not buy some of the animation releases because they already have been done on Lost in Time. I think though that they could always say how they improved their original restoration process of episodes like Underwater Menace 3 or so and that will get customers wanting more..

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous January 21st, 2013

Most collectors will buy the entire range (may be not the Special Editions) to have everything. Though Lost In Time does present the existing episodes animation would be the real selling point of a new release rather than restored episodes. Plus, who wouldn’t want them represented in their own case and as a ‘complete’ story?

    • Posted by: KORSAIR January 21st, 2013

@MasterKasterborous…..Have I seen you on youtube?

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous January 22nd, 2013

  9. Posted by: Alex Noonan January 17th, 2013 Reply

People! I want genuine information on animated episodes. I would like to see:
The Crusade, Episodes 2 and 4
    The Tenth Planet, Episode 4
The Underwater Menace, Episodes 1 and 3
The Moonbase, Episodes 1 and 3
The Ice Warriors, Episodes 2 and 3

Is this likely? I need to know more about the DVD range’s future

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous January 21st, 2013

The Crusade: 2&4 – Nothing mentioned
The Tenth Planet: 4 – Test Shots shown from a an earlier episode (doesn’t actually mean they’ll animate it)
The Underwater Menace: 1&4 (3 Exists!) – Nothing mentioned though could be a good way to release the newly found episode
The Moonbase: 1&3 – Some special features have been stated to have been recorded (doesn’t actually mean they’ll animate it)
The Ice Warriors: 2&3 Trailer passed on BBFC doesn’t actually mean they’ll animate it)

[Mission To The Unknown - Nothing Official - Levine has fan animation]

  12. Posted by: drjakeyoung January 4th, 2013 Reply

i am going to sell all of my vanilla releases of all the new doctor who episodes (2005 onwards) and hopefully with replace them all with the box sets (for example sell all 4 volumes of series 1 and then buy the complete 1st series) I plan to do this with all the series (bar series 6 which i already own). The only reason i am doing this is because amazon are selling them dirt cheap

    • Posted by: Alex Noonan January 5th, 2013

I’m considering doing the same – would save a lot of shelf space!

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung January 6th, 2013

i got all of ÂŁ20! seriously 20 quid, what a rip off. I sold my copies to a second hand shop(named cash converters, never going there again)

    • Posted by: Lachie January 9th, 2013

l would have done the same at one stage but l felt that it would be a complete waste because l would be getting at least a fifth of what l had paid for the volumes all together. l have Series 2, Series 3 and Series 4 in volumes and l actually like the volumes alot because of the covers but l am going to buy the Boxsets so l can get all the extras later on but when they decrease in price of course.

    • Posted by: Lachie January 9th, 2013

Alot of TV Shows (not just Who) will actually sell a Boxset release afterwards like Sherlock. And the Boxsets usually are around $20 here in Australia at the moment Series 1-6 Boxsets on DVD are priced at $45 so l’m going to wait a couple of years for the decrease to other shows.

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung January 9th, 2013

really, there that expensive?! the complete series 1-4 box series is only ÂŁ25 here in the UK. you can get series 1-6 (including specials) for about ÂŁ40

    • Posted by: Lachie January 10th, 2013

Well for one thing over here in Aus what they did was re-new the boxset releases from 2005, 2006 and so on to fit one dvd case basically so it wasn’t like a boxset yet it had the same content just in a smaller case and all new because it was a 2010 release it also had the purple BBC Logo swell and because of that they raised the price a little. For another thing your forgetting the exchange rate. Besides you live in the UK (basically where the BBC is things are bound to be cheaper… Although we do have 20% of sales around once a month. :)

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung January 11th, 2013

ah, that clears things up then, i forgot about the exchange rate

    • Posted by: Blake January 15th, 2013

really they are cheap as hell in aussie then, series 1-6 (including specials) are all at least $80, the complete specials, 5,6 are all close if not $100 and i wanted to replace my volumes as well and drdrakeyoung, cash converters are criminals, they gave me $30 for my old bike that i had outgrown and was in great condition

    • Posted by: drjakeyoung January 16th, 2013

lol, never going to cash converters again

Also, what other special editions do people know to be in the works? And what are the special features for this, The Ark in Space and The Aztecs?

    With love :D

    • Posted by: Gordon January 4th, 2013

At the moment there are 5 special editions been officially confirmed for 2013. Ark in space, aztecs, inferno, visitation and green death. There is a rumoured moonbase SE but that hasnt been officially confirmed by bbcww. Extras for reign:
Making-Of Featurette “Don’t Lose Your Head”
      Photo Gallery
      Animation Gallery
      Trailer “The First Doctor Returns”
      Extras for ark: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releases/Doctor-Volume-Release/12987
      Extras for aztecs: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releases/Doctor-Volume-Release/12986

    • Posted by: Alex Noonan January 4th, 2013

Yeah, but just wondering whether anyone who is in the know knows whether they’re planning Special Editions of The Two Doctors, Earthshock, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, etc. Do you think The Tenth Planet and The Ice Warriors will have animated episodes? And surely they’ll have to animate episodes 1 and 3 of The Moonbase for a DVD?

So what’s your favourite guilty pleasure Doctor Who story? Mine has to be either Attack of the Cybermen or Carnival of Monsters.

    • Posted by: Gordon January 4th, 2013

I know that there are no current plans to revisit earthshock but beyond that no idea but in my opinion there really isnt any storys left that have enough of a reason to be revisited. Any story that has 1/2 episodes missing can be considered for animation but whether or not they are animating tenth planet and ice warriors hasnt been officially anounced but as the vhs recon of both stories have been confirmed as extras i would say animation for both is a strong possibility. Time monster is my guilty pleasure

    • Posted by: matparks08 January 4th, 2013

Guilty pleasure story is Timelash……and Creature from the Pit – no laughing please!

    • Posted by: Alex Noonan January 4th, 2013

It’s annoying that SPECIAL EDITION is put down the spine. Ruins the collect a bit.

    • Posted by: Alex Noonan January 5th, 2013

It’s just a shame that they have SPECIAL EDITION written across the spine. Spoils the collection somewhat.

    • Posted by: Gordon January 5th, 2013

Its not on the reverse side (with the exception of varos)

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous January 5th, 2013

Not on the flip side (bar Vengeance). If they do animate The Moonbase I do hope they won’t call it a SE as although two episodes were released on Lost In Time it’s not yet had a release.

    • Posted by: Alex Noonan January 5th, 2013

We should get a petition going to BBC Worldwide for them to issue new, SPECIAL EDITION-less Vengeance on Varos sleeves then! Only takes one to spoil a collection!

(As you can tell I get OCD over things like this haha)

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous January 6th, 2013

Seriously? Their’s bound to be a fan one online somewhere anyway!

    • Posted by: Gordon January 6th, 2013

I would love in millions and billions of ways to see every lost and incomplete Doctor Who serial released on dvd in cartoon form.

    • Posted by: Lachlan January 1st, 2013

l believe The DVD Releases should have at least more Orphan Episodes than that of Missing Episodes in each one otherwise it just feels to me like its to much animation not actual footage of the Episode that was made you know, for example if Ian Levine does make his Animated The Daleks Master Plan the 2:1 ratio of Missing Episode to Animation will be too different for me however l could take it if it was a 4 Part like the Celestial Toymaker with Episodes 1-3 Animated

    • Posted by: rojblake82 February 5th, 2013

I think it would be ace to do animated versions of all the missing and incomplete Dr Who stories.

  17. Posted by: Lachlan December 24th, 2012 Reply

Ever wondered what might happen if they discover the missing episode after they release animation for it on DVD? What would they do, make a Special Edition? And people would also have to consider the missing episode too

    • Posted by: Lachlan December 24th, 2012

Would they put the animation on as an extra perhaps? Who knows but l would like it alot if they discover a new missing episode l would prefer to watch that then an animation and it would be awesome to compare the two!

    • Posted by: gordon December 25th, 2012

In all likelyhood they would rerelease it with the animation relegated to extra status

  18. Posted by: MasterKasterborous December 22nd, 2012 Reply

I’ve been lucky enough to see the animated Episode 4 of this in September and it’s a real treat. For those who haven’t had an opportunity there have been a few clips from a couple of events posted on a certain video site.

However, now there is an opportunity to view some officialy released footage from the animated The Reign Of Terror in Thetamation’s showreel: http://planet55studios.com.au/

(This also includes some TEST footage from an existing Tenth Planet episode and what seems to be some colour, widescreen The Power Of The Daleks clips.)

that last little clip of hartnell running through the snow, and then you see him through a cyberman’s eyes!!! That must be a little trial for the tenth planet. HAS TO BE

    • Posted by: Lachlan December 24th, 2012

It looks a bit like anime which is awesome! If this is how things are going the animation is going to be alot different to the Invasion and will be unique. Please all buy the Reign of Terror DVD Release this is my type of animation. I reckon they have a back up plan so if The Reign of Terror’s sales don’t end up good they can replace the animation with what the Recons made in the VHS releases of Ice Warriors and Tenth Planet.

    • Posted by: Lachlan December 24th, 2012

with the* recons made sorry typo above.

    • Posted by: gordon December 24th, 2012

If the ice warriors is due in april like rumours suggest there is no way they will be able to wait to see how reign of terror does first before deciding on whether or not animating ice warriors so they will have made their mind up already on that one. I think its more looking at sales figuers for others ie crusade underwater menace etc

i wonder if the bbc for the 50th would do a boxset for hartnell and toughton with 3 stories in each with animation epiosdes.

the stories I would like to see are:
    The Crusade
    galaxy 4
    The Dalek Master Plan

    moonbase
    The Abominable Snowmen
    The Enemy Of The World

    • Posted by: gordon December 21st, 2012

Not going to happen. Currently their budget is limited to 2 animated eps.

I think for the Patrick troughton ones:
      Moonbase
      The Underwater menace
      The Ice warriors

And for the William hartnell ones:
      The Crusade
      Galaxy 4
      The Tenth planet

Will the Green Death Special Edition have all the extras from its Original Release? or is that yet to be announced.

    • Posted by: gordon December 21st, 2012

It should do.BBCWW own the rights to all the footage unlike tomb and 3 doctors which had tombwatch and panopticon 93 footage. The rights had expired for those and it was too expensive to get clearance again for the revisit

  21. Posted by: dr who 1999 December 20th, 2012 Reply

so i take it the green death is the last Pertwee release that hasn’t Iver A. been revisited or B. doesn’t need revisiting as it has been released in the last 4 years and is completely healthy

    • Posted by: gordon December 21st, 2012

Yeah i would say so. Maybe in a couple of years time when there is more time on their hands a revist of invasion of dinos with ep 1 colourised by babelcolour would be nice. Some have said due to the technilogical advancements with converting ntsc to colour that some of them may get revist but that probably wont be for a few years down the line if it happens at all

Point taken Gordon, I would like to see the ice warriors and the moonbase animated.

  24. Posted by: Prof Horner December 17th, 2012 Reply

Being new to buying online. I did think about buying this one when it comes out. But a big rise in my energy bill means I will wait till it is under a tenner. I will get the Sensorites instead.

    • Posted by: gordon December 18th, 2012

I know people have other priorities than dvds and i cant expect people to put it ahead of bills but If its possible preorder or buy reign of terror in the first week. Its sales are being closly monitored and could very well judge the animation future of the range. If sales are healthy enough they might be able to up the limit from 2

    • Posted by: dr who 1999 December 19th, 2012

reign of terror is a must have, even if i don’t particularly like the story. it will decide the future of the animation of missing dr who episodes

  25. Posted by: Lachlan December 17th, 2012 Reply

Damn, The Green Death is getting Special Edition Treatment. I bought that only a few months ago. I wish that we could have a better idea of how many of these are getting a release from this l expect many people who are only just starting to collect will be buying more recent releases like myself.

    • Posted by: Lachlan December 17th, 2012

But it’s still brilliant to have new restoration as always. Gordon or Booboo can you please list which one’s you think are likely to get re-released in the future which haven’t been done already.

    • Posted by: gordon December 17th, 2012

I think that will be it for revisits in 2013. Schedule is starting to look pretty full now.

    • Posted by: gordon December 17th, 2012

These are the only early releases and are the ones that are the silver (shiny discs) discs that stopped in late 2004

      The Dalek Invasion of Earth
      Pyramids of Mars
      The Leisure Hive
      Earthshock
      The Two Doctors
      Ghost Light
      The Curse of Fenric

None of those really scream out revisit to me, Maybe 2 doctors but thats about it. The rest either cant really be improved or is missing a making of and that alone isnt really enough to warrent a revisit in my opinion

    • Posted by: Lachlan December 17th, 2012

Thanks Gordon, I hope this list will help others as it has helped me funnily enough l was about to buy The Ark in Space only a few months ago aswell but its release date and with the information l looked at on The Restoration Team website l decided not to. Though l wasn’t expecting The Green Death for a revisit at all everything looked quite good except for the cover.

    • Posted by: gordon December 17th, 2012

The original release was hindered by only getting a 1 disc release. The episodes with the extras on the same disc made it too compressed and the picture quality suffered. Also there was a documentary called What katy did next which was dropped as there was no room. And to top it off its the only pertwee story not to have a making of

    • Posted by: dr who 1999 December 17th, 2012

how do you know green death is getting revisited?

    • Posted by: gordon December 17th, 2012

Because dan hall annouced it at the midnight convetion yesterday. I had a friend that went. Its also getting death of the doctor as an extra with commentary from Katy manning and rtd

    • Posted by: Blake December 17th, 2012

damn, the green death is one of 3 im getting for Christmas, along with the claws of axos (standard release) and the leisure hive

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous December 17th, 2012

Am I one of the only ones who plans to keep both the original and special editions? I’ve yet to buy a SE but will be buying The Aztecs next year to see Air Lock again (it’s a brilliant episode!) and then will get the rest when I’ve finished the main range.

      Then I’ll order them:

      Lost In Time
Chronological Main Range (With ‘Shada’ After ‘Nimon’)
      K9 And Company
Chronological Special Editions (With Blu-Ray ‘Spearhead’ After ‘Spearhead’ SE)
More Than 30 Years In The TARDIS

    • Posted by: dr who 1999 December 18th, 2012

no, i keep all my standard editions as well as my special editions (it just makes my collection look that little bit bigger)

    • Posted by: Lachlan December 18th, 2012

Haha l had Tomb and Spearhead from Space originally and after watching the work on the SE l just felt like l didn’t need it at all l didn’t throw them away though l let my friend have them as a gift but since then l think l’ll take back tomb just so l can see the comparison in the VidFire and so l can watch Tombwatch again. Spearhead from Space however will now have a Blu-Ray release!

    • Posted by: MasterKasterborous December 19th, 2012

In the end I’d then have three copies of Spearhead on my shelf but hey!

Also I’m thinking More Than.. might go before the SE rather than after.

I might also get any of the VHS release which contain material unreleased on DVD but I’ll worry about that later.

  28. Posted by: Lachlan December 16th, 2012 Reply

Come on the Crusade, Underwater Menace and Moonbase. The Ice Warriors and Tenth Planet are bound to happen as they have material but the first 3 have all that survives in the Lost in Time (except Underwater Menace) so l guess for the Restoration Team those 3 are optional everything will be clear once this has been release how animation will go.

    • Posted by: Lachlan December 16th, 2012

Also if Mission to the Unknown could ever get animated how do you think it could get released because 1 episode isn’t exactly economic enough. what are anyones thoughts on that?

    • Posted by: gordon December 16th, 2012

Well ian levine did offer bbc ww mission to the unknown but it was turned down because there was nowhere for it to go. Ian is now trying to get the funds together to do masterplan. If he does manage to complete that i supose he probably will offer it to them along with mission. I feel there is less hurdles in the way than his shada and there is more chance of getting a release.I just hope he actually bothers to get clearance this time round

  30. Posted by: Prof Horner December 15th, 2012 Reply

Given the lack of troughton you would think they would have animated the ice warriors first.
As for the tenth planet I still have hopes that part four will be returned.

    • Posted by: gordon December 15th, 2012

Out of reign ice warriors and tenth planet (remember when reign was put into production underwater menace wasnt possible at the time) reign has the least going for it as it doesnt have a regeneration or a popular monster. Putting reign out first gives it a comercial boost of being the first in a new style of animation and it gives them time to iron out any wrinkles before it gets on the big hitters

and possibly mission to the unknown

    • Posted by: Anonymous December 14th, 2012

I think that we could have the tenth planet by the end of 2013, because someone who went to the day of the Daleks screening in sydney, Australia said that when the special trailer for the regin of terror had finished the boss of 2 entertain said that they have plans to animate other hartnell stories that have episodes missing, and the tenth planet should be at the top of the list because it’s one of the most wanted lost releases on DVD!

    • Posted by: Anonymous December 15th, 2012

The artwork for the box is also brilliant! :)

    • Posted by: Anonymous December 15th, 2012

The ice warriors is another brilliant story with episodes missing, so I’m happy thats getting animated!

    • Posted by: gordon December 15th, 2012

That is if it is getting animated. Animation for ice warriors has yet to be officially confirmed. It is likely yes but not official. Some people believe as it is expected too soon after reign of terror we will get the vhs recon instead. Steve roberts has confirmed the recon will appear but didnt say if it was main feature or as an extra. Plus i dont want to tempt fate by saying animation is definitly happening when it has yet to be officially confirmed

    • Posted by: dr who 1999 December 15th, 2012

my heart will fall if is not animated! i cant bear to watch recons

    • Posted by: Anonymous December 15th, 2012

If they do just re release the VHS recon then i think a lot of people will be disappointed. And also it’s just an excuse not to spend a lot of money to animate it, and give it the status it deserves.

Actually it should be either 10th planet or ice warriors animated first before crusade. The crusade has already been released on the lost in time dvd set and those 2 havent and should take priority. Id rather see them annimate the stories that have missing episodes and havent been released on dvd first before animating stories that have had their surviving episodes released on dvd already.

      sensorites
      Reign of terror
      Planet of giants
      Krotons
      Death to the daleks
      Terror of the zygons
      Android invasion
      Face of evil
      Nightmare in eden
      Ace tales (dragonfire/happieness patrol)
      Greatest show in the galaxy
All those titles confirmed 2012 by dwm 2 issues ago

Plus on the reissues Revisitations 3 (delayed from 2011 now 2012 due to production issues)
      and Vengance on varos SE

We may also get invasion of dinosaurs as recolurisation has been suposidly done on ep 1.

Wouldnt get too exited about ambassadors of death for 2012 just yet as it was delayed from this year because of restoration problems which is still being worked on at this moment.

But before 2012 its rumoured colony in space will get released this october as a suprise release (classic dw twitter page says its finished and even the artwork is done plus the deadline has been moved forward makes october promising)

Dont forget there is also an ace box set in production for next year and will feature 2 stories featuring ace. And the main theory is the 2 titles in the ace box set will be Dragonfire and happieness patrol as they are both studio bound 3 parters with the same director. Plus greatest show in the galaxy would be a be a better seller on its own than dragonfire and happiness patrol.

Vengeance on Varos IS confirmed to be revisited on DVD, much deservedly we all agree, and is being released shortly before the end of the world in 2012. Since our website seems to do this thing where they make great haste and immediately display a “coming soon/jsut confirmed” advert display in the news section for practicly ANY title thats been announced on DVD, you might wanna make one for Vengeance on Varos, when it comes out.
