    • JD95

      April 12th, 2013 - 12:18pm

I share your excitement for the release of more Troughton stories, also don’t forget Ice Warriors is being released that’s another one

      April 13th, 2013 - 9:32am

why do people weant troughton i would rather they do more hartnell

    • JD95

      April 13th, 2013 - 3:07pm

It’s because there is very little Troughton avaliable and the ‘monster season’ has got to be the most craved for return and best season, and there isn’t much more Hartnell avaliable to animate other than the Crusade. But I would love to see Dalek Masterplan animated even though it’s very very unlikely. πŸ˜€

    • josh smith

      April 13th, 2013 - 3:59pm

i want the celestial toymaker animated aswell its only 3 parts to animate

    • LEWIS

      April 15th, 2013 - 5:05pm

realy when is the under water menace comming out caus i had no clue they were releasing it

    • Anonymous

      April 19th, 2013 - 6:38pm

I Realy want these two story’s the celestial toymaker and fury from the deep because I think those story’s are interesting, cool and pretty damn awsome!

  • Charlie

    April 11th, 2013 - 3:32pm

It’s probably already been attempted, but what if funding for the animation was entirely donated by fans, like in a Kickstarter fundraiser event? Then, while the BBC still have overall control, we’d at least be able to have more say and choice in which stories are released, like an entirely animated 4 part Myth Makers, for example.

    • josh smith

      April 11th, 2013 - 3:49pm

yes they should animate just historicals in a box set

      the crusade
      marco polo
      the myth makers

      and for volume 2

      the highlanders
      the roamans special edition
the massaca of st bothemues eve

    • Charlie

      April 11th, 2013 - 6:37pm

Not just historicals – any story. I’m just using The Myth Makers as an example.

    • Anonymous

      April 11th, 2013 - 9:41pm

This is a very good idea!

I would chip in with other fans to get all six parts of the power of the daleks animated!

    • josh smith

      April 11th, 2013 - 9:46pm

no pwer of the daleks isnt even good evil of the daleks is far better

    • WFK DVD Collector 13

      April 12th, 2013 - 10:11am

I would chip in to get both of the stories animated, because they both have 6 episodes missing.

Also the historical box set is a very good idea!

    • josh smith

      April 12th, 2013 - 10:18am

thank you πŸ™‚ but i would rather have evil first

mabye a dalek story boxset with

      power of the daleks
      dalek invasion of earth special
      and evil of the daleks

    • Gordon

      April 12th, 2013 - 10:44am

I’m sure I heard there was some issues to do with the bbc charter that would prevent bbc worldwide from accepting funding outwidth bbc ww.

    • LEWIS

      April 13th, 2013 - 5:35pm

I very much doubt it has been attempted

    • Charlie

      April 14th, 2013 - 4:28am

I don’t particularly mind which Dalek episode is released. I’d rather not fuss over it – just try to do as many as we can! XD
I mean, if it hasn’t been attempted, I think it can at least be worth a try. Giving it a go can’t do much harm. At least if it doesn’t work, we can say we tried, instead of not bothering at all. πŸ˜›
Maybe if there are issues Gordon, we could hire independent animators, release it independently, and then from there, based on the success, see if BBC Worldwide might change their minds. πŸ˜‰

    • JD95

      April 17th, 2013 - 2:58am

What I have started to see is that people have no idea how much animating film costs and adding soundtracks not just for the software but for the wages aswell etc it’s not cheap if it was we would have many more animated stories

  • Lachie

    April 9th, 2013 - 8:11am

not completely relevant but is it basically confirmed that Underwater Menace will be released separately??? l’m sure Gordon could answer that πŸ˜›

The reason why is because l’ve got a list of my own l’ve made up and with this release it will make 10. it would also be really, really, really good for the Crusade to be animated completing Hartnell’s second season completely and making his total up to 20 (its also a good story) πŸ™‚

    • Anonymous

      April 9th, 2013 - 10:52am

Basically. Not absolutely 100% confirmed, but exceptionally likely.

It also gives us an idea of what order they are coming out in: The Moonbase; The Underwater Menace; The Crusade.

Would be nice if they could fill out a sixties classic series, well unless we are including the telensnap/extract reconstructions, in which case we already have the first two series (as we have Marco Polo and The Crusade, but an animation for the latter would fill it out better). Knocks the number up to 22 as well.

    • josh smith

      April 9th, 2013 - 5:15pm

they should animate the wheel in space

    • Anonymous

      April 9th, 2013 - 6:42pm

It would be possible in theory but very unlikely. There’s three possible methods:

Wait until the animation budget goes up or somebody offers it at a lower cost.

      Get funding from the BBC.

Split it up into two separate releases, one with episodes 1-3, the other 4-6 with two animations on each.

All three are unlikely to happen any time soon, but you never know.

    • Gordon

      April 11th, 2013 - 10:06am

Nothing is confirmed but with a commentary being recorded i would say its very likely

  • Space1999

    April 9th, 2013 - 5:54am

We need more Patrick episode animated because I love to see a animated evil of the daleks

    • Lachie

      April 9th, 2013 - 7:50am

not possible enough said, 2 or possibly 3 but 5 is no doubt a no go and cannot be done.

    • Anonymous

      April 9th, 2013 - 10:45am

And The Evil of the Daleks needs six.

In theory it would be possible to do, but not purely off the back of the DVD budget. Funding would be required from elsewhere in the BBC as well.

    • Lachie

      April 12th, 2013 - 11:33am

oh right sorry 6, i actually think it is a great idea animation but as you say funding would be required, also i didn’t say this before but why go with more Patrick Troughton animated? surely completing William Hartnell’s Era since there are less missing episodes would be better πŸ™‚

Great news that this story is getting its well over due DVD release.

If it is true and it’s not a mistake of amazon USA, then it will probably come out in early 2014.

Also it’s up for pre order on Anneke Wills’ website with test artwork.

    • Anonymous

There’s a rumer that it maybe out by late this year on Facebook dr who missing episode hunt.

  • The Monitor

    April 7th, 2013 - 10:00pm

I think this is a great idea, (re)releasing what exists of imcomplete stories, irrespective of what the linking material is.

Bizarre timing though. Galaxy Four easily warranted a disc on its own. I know it is 2/3rds traditional running length, but it was merely an extra on another story (yes The Aztecs is the best black and white story in my view), but it should have been a double pack with Galaxy Four in its own case, which would have paved the way for other single disc-single case releases such as The Moonbase…

    • Gordon

      April 8th, 2013 - 10:22am

there isn’t enough existing footage for galaxy 4 to warrent its own disc and its inclusion on Aztecs was a last minute thing and there was no budget left to add an extra disc and cover of its own.

    • Lachie

      April 9th, 2013 - 7:46am

i kinda think it would have been wiser to release Galaxy 4 separately, even with the 3 episodes missing from the story i think in the future it could have been an option for Animation when the budget and cost for animation could be cheaper.

    • Gordon

      April 9th, 2013 - 8:08am

Costs may not come down for a long time yet. Could be 5 year’s time before it becomes affordable

    • Anonymous

      April 9th, 2013 - 10:54am

By which point a re-release wouldn’t be too big a problem, the DVD range would likely have either ended or started on the RTD era in classic format, if they can do Richard E Grant why not Chris Eccelston?

  • Blake

    April 7th, 2013 - 8:07am

great news, i finally got my copy of lost in time last week and watched the remaining episodes of this story and thought it was amazing, better than tomb of the cybermen imo

  • Some bloke

    April 6th, 2013 - 11:52pm

do we know when this is due for release in uk?

    • Some bloke

      April 6th, 2013 - 11:55pm

      is 2013 a possibility?

    • Gordon

      April 7th, 2013 - 1:41am

I would hope for this year but wouldnt surprise me if they held it back till early next year. Really does depend on how far on production the animation is. Wouldnt suprise me if underwater menace is held back till after the aniversary as it would give something new for them to promote post aniversary. Dan hall said crusade isnt currently on the list for animation but he didnt rule it out so i expect that to come last (out of the 2 ep missing) if it gets animated

    • hobbit dalek

      April 7th, 2013 - 11:41am

will they use another animation company

    • josh smith

      April 7th, 2013 - 2:25pm

i would rather have the crusade than this becasue these types of stories bore me but the audio of the crusade is fantastic and i dont own lost in time as i dont like it

    • MasterKasterborous

      April 7th, 2013 - 7:06pm

If you enjoy a story just by the audio when two episodes already exist it would be worthwhile buying Lost In Time. It’s such a lovely collection of 18 whole episodes. I would get it if I were you.

    • josh smith

      April 7th, 2013 - 7:34pm

um ok i will reconsider after i have seen all the other stories i have never seen before

do you think that’s a hood idea or just by lost in time next?

    • MasterKasterborous

      April 8th, 2013 - 11:31am

I think that’s probably best. I’m particularly interested in that era and watched them as part of my existing episode run but for someone who isn’t wholly sure I would buy it at the end. You have to watch an enjoy the individual episodes rather than the story as it were.

It won’t just be a re-release some special features have already been prepared for it including a commentary.

    • Gordon

      April 6th, 2013 - 10:44pm

There are no current plans to rerelease the lost in time box set. Dan hall has said that in multiple occasions. If there was they would have not have put airlock on a rerelease. Noticed anneke wills has it on preorder on her official website

  • bigbradwolf

    April 6th, 2013 - 10:04am

Maybe they’ve rediscovered the missing 2 episodes…most probably reanimation, which is awesome, but who knows?

Im glad they are relesing it but why not evil of the daleks

    • eddy

      April 6th, 2013 - 9:51am

      probably not available.

    • Gordon

      April 6th, 2013 - 9:51am

Evil has too many episodes missing and animating 6 eps is currently far too expensive

    • eddy

      April 6th, 2013 - 9:56am

in time it will all happen, and every single episode will be released, and i would say that would be by 2016 – 17.

    • Lachie

      April 6th, 2013 - 10:00am

please realise and i think l’ve said this a couple of times but its out of their budget. they can do only do 2 stories with animation at the moment perhaps they could be able to do 3 at a later time but right now only 2 with their budget right now they can do: The Crusade, Mission to the Unknown, The Underwater Menace and this release The Moonbase. they’ve already been able to do The Reign of Terror, The Ice Warriors and the Invasion because of this. With Tenth Planet obviously with only 1 missing episode.

    • Lachie

      April 6th, 2013 - 10:03am

however with their budget extended to 3 they could do Galaxy 4 and the Celestial Toymaker, although i kinda doubt they will be able to make Galaxy 4 again for obvious reasons i would like The Celestial Toymaker for Animation that would be really good! and the only way they’d be able to release Mission to the Unknown is with more material so possibly something with The Daleks Masterplan thats being animated by Ian Levine and his crew correct me if l’m wrong.

    • Anonymous

      April 6th, 2013 - 12:08pm

It apears to be not just the two episode rule though, it also appears to need to have at least another existing episode before they’ll release it which rules out Mission to the Unknown from release. It also severely limits any potential future releases.

Of course they could start doing partial animations, but no doubt it would start to get tedious trying to pick two episodes to animate from every missing story, and the fans would get a bit irritated about having to rebuy it a few years later with two more animated episodes.

    • eddy

      April 6th, 2013 - 5:34pm

all im saying and “realiseng” is that people need to be patient, they will be all out at 1 point 2 episodes at one go, or whatever it it, they will all be out, for people to enjoy!

    • Anonymous

      April 6th, 2013 - 9:07pm

No they won’t, BBC Worldwide are blocking releases of completely missing stories so that’s 44 episodes before you’ve even started which will never be released with the remaining 55 episodes (of which only 6 look likely).

    • Lachie

      April 6th, 2013 - 11:52pm

oh sorry eddy with comments on moderation my huge comment must have taken longer to load i would like that to be so but why would they bother releasing Lost in Time then? i don’t think everything will be released especially a story like Marco Polo, and l think the dvd range is ending by 2014, all they can do now after what’s been announced is continue with Animated Episodes within their budget and Special Edition Releases. With the Loose Cannon Reconstructions and the Lost in Time release for me the Moonbase almost seems optional.

    • eddy

      April 7th, 2013 - 1:08am

      hi,
ohh, now i relies, and completely understand what you mean now, what is lost in time dvd box set all about, is it all the lost episodes and just one or 2 parts or something, i have never really watched it before.
thanks very much for helping me lachie
      eddy

    • Lachie

      April 7th, 2013 - 9:47am

oh well since i’m guessing you might not know all of this there are i think 106 missing episodes, some of which complete whole stories from William Hartnell like Marco Polo, The Smugglers and from Patrick Troughton like the Macra Terror and Power of the Daleks etc… however for some stories there are parts of the story that survive and footage that isn’t lost, The Lost in Time dvd combines all these missing episodes and footage together. such as Moonbase Parts 2 and 4, as well as this there is also the audio soundtrack to Parts 1 and 3.

    • Lachie

      April 7th, 2013 - 9:56am

i bought Lost in Time after i found a way to download all the Loose Cannon Reconstructions on my laptop! also it is good to note that there are 18 of these surviving parts available on the DVD, The Loose Cannon Reconstructions are well Reconstructions of all the missing Doctor Who stories using the audio that survives for every single missing episode of Doctor Who (thank god) and surviving material together to make the episode. which works fairly well i must say, along with it being free and not copyright.

    • Lachie

      April 7th, 2013 - 9:59am

*Orphan Episodes sorry… not missing cause there well missing… by Orphan episodes i mean the surviving parts of a story that has the majority of the story lost such as The Evil of the Daleks Episode 2 surviving out of the 5 other parts that are lost

  • Lachie

    April 6th, 2013 - 9:21am

if that’s the case then i guess animation has been given the go ahead but why start with Moonbase? are there problems with Underwater Menace cause if they could, they could have released every surviving footage with that release… anyway l’m not complaining Moonbase is a cybermen story and this pretty much proves that animation is going to happen since this story would have been optional since all surviving footage has already been released on Lost in Time, whereas the Underwater Menace still hasn’t been released complete, so it would have to

    • Lachie

      April 6th, 2013 - 9:30am

Oh i just read up on the commentary done in 2012, so i guess that’s why, although they could have made a Lost in Time Special Edition with all surviving episodes, now that there is Airlock and Underwater Menace Episode 2 i guess releasing Airlock on Aztecs SE changed that possibility if there ever was one, would have been alot cheaper to just make Lost in Time again but animation seems to be in high demand πŸ˜€

    • Gordon

      April 6th, 2013 - 11:20pm

There are no plans to do a special edition of lost in time.

  • Joe

    April 6th, 2013 - 9:02am

If been waiting of this a long time now I can finally find out what happens after the cliffhangers (hope it’s true)

    • Lachie

      April 6th, 2013 - 9:23am

haha i just transferred all the Loose Cannon Reconstructions to my USB in pretty much dvd standard quality so i can watch any of the missing episodes whenever i put on the tv with usb playback. You should look it up if you haven’t already done so there really great!

  • Space1999

    April 6th, 2013 - 4:17am

I think this could be official

  • Connor

    April 6th, 2013 - 2:10am

Yes i knew they did the animation of the moonbase maybe this will be released in a box set with underwater menace! The Moonbase is one of my favorite storys of all time and one of the most scaryest storys ever! Cybermen are really good in this story! Hopefully theres animation and lots of special features! Im just happy another 2nd doctor dvd is getting released and i hope the cover art is good! Whens it coming out 2013/14?

    • Connor

      April 6th, 2013 - 2:23am

So they got the Moonbase on dvd now but what about the underwater menace and the Crusade? I really want the underwater menace to be released this year and the crusade but i really want the underwater menace just to see the found episode 2! It will also be the last patrick troughton story released. And the crusade will be the last william Hartnell story released unless any new episodes are found! They both need only 2 episodes animated. So i think they will get released in 2013 or 2014?

    • Space1999

      April 6th, 2013 - 4:15am

There should be a box set called the missing collection it should be three DVDs long and they should have in it the 1965 story the crusade the 1967(2)the underwater menace and the moonbase all animated ao fan everywhere can enjoy it however it will or might take a few years to come and it should be the people who did the invasion the tenth planet and the ice warriors or how about the box set includes surving footage and the missing years documentary that came out on the lost in time box set to me I think it needs a update

    • Gordon

      April 6th, 2013 - 6:46am

More likely they would release crusade moonbase and underwater menace seperatly as the budget couldnt stand all 3 being released together.

Maybe they could make a box set holding 4 storys, the Moonbase, Underwater menace, the crusade and mision to the unknown since mission to the unknown would not sell on its own and it could be a box set of all the storys in animation and since the mission to the unknown is already animated it would be a shame not to release it and have it in a box set with the other 3! Its a great idea, whats you guys thoughts?

      April 6th, 2013 - 11:59pm

Good idea but as mentioned above they probably couldn’t release the 4 together because it would be outside the budget. if they were to do anything they would just use what they have already done and re package it in a boxset such as: The Missing Collection includes: “Lost in Time” and the 4-Part Epic “The Tenth Planet”. For Stories like The Crusade and for this release it has to be released separately.

This must have animated episodes, if not they would have just stuck with the lost in time dvd version. Looking forward to this if true.

When do you reckon this will be released, Gordon?

    • Anonymous

      April 6th, 2013 - 12:26am

I’m not Gordon but given that the release schedule for this year only seems to have one slot left and that will likely be filled with The Tenth Planet I’d go for early 2014.

    • drjakeyoung

      April 6th, 2013 - 12:29am

no i think late this year because they wouldn’t have announced it now otherwise.

    • Gordon

      April 6th, 2013 - 12:30am

Dont have any idea. I know nothing.

    • Anonymous

      April 6th, 2013 - 12:38am

They haven’t announced it yet though.

Besides, in the past they have announced DVDs quite far in advance, the furthest I can think of is ten months. Ten months from now is February 2014. The Tenth Planet appears to have been announced nine months before its release (if it goes into the November release slot as expected) which would be January 2014 for this. So it is entirely plausible.

    • Gordon

      April 6th, 2013 - 1:55am

In some cases they anounce releases only about 3 months in advance.

    April 6th, 2013 - 12:10am

BBC Worldwide/Warner Home Entertainment have released details on a forthcoming DVD release, The Doctors Revisited (1-4), a four-disc boxed set being released as part of BBC America’s 50th Anniversary celebration of Doctor Who.

This set features the first four special documentaries broadcast by the channel for William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, each accompanied by the story that illustrated them (The Aztecs, The Tomb of the Cybermen, Spearhead from Space and Pyramids of Mars). As a bonus, each story will also feature an introduction by the show’s current lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat.

      April 6th, 2013 - 3:28am

Seriously, ‘Pyramids Of Mars’ has been confirmed as the Tom Baker story. That is (without worldwide agreement) on my most hated list and I hoped they would choose another story fitting the guidelines for the documentaries, like: ‘City Of Death’; ‘Horror Of Fang Rock’.
      The guidelines are:

(Because of copyright) A story from the 2001-2006 DVD releases

      (For Time) Four Parts

(For lack-of-confusion) Not terribly important or containing a lot of references to past stories and events

    • Connor

      April 6th, 2013 - 4:08am

I think the storys for the regeneration box set are:
1st doctor: Dalek invasion of earth
      2nd doctor: mind robber
      3rd doctor: the Silurians
4th doctor: horror of fang rock

i have the original release, the release on TSJA and now this release, why not just make an SE raver then releasing it in different sets constantly.

  • drjakeyoung

    April 5th, 2013 - 11:32pm

perhaps the strangest release of the year… i think they have screwed up on the pre order date and were meant to announce it today. I don’t know, it’s not like them to just slip in a major release like this without making a big song and dance about it…

    • Gordon

      April 5th, 2013 - 11:50pm

A lot of the time retailers list dvds and blu rays before there is any info or companies officially anounce their release

    • Ben Roberts

      April 6th, 2013 - 12:01am

Actually, I have a little hunch that this might be part of ‘The Regeneration Box Set’ announced at the start of the month. I have just checked on Amazon.com, and I don’t think the US get it.
But I know in the past, box sets in the UK have been released as individuals in the US.

Like I said, it’s just a hunch. This also adds fuel to the speculation of TRB being a collection of The Tenth Planet, Power of the Daleks & The Moonbase…

    • Anonymous

      April 6th, 2013 - 12:06am

The Regeneration Box Set appears to be just the first four stories being shown on BBC America with those documetnries they are doing.

    • drjakeyoung

      April 6th, 2013 - 12:10am

the US will get the regeneration box, except that it will be called the doctors revisited, it’s just another name, that’s all…

    • Ben Roberts

      April 6th, 2013 - 1:02am

So, I take it the US and UK will have the same content?

Which means the first three will be:

      The Aztecs
      Tomb of the Cybermen
      Spearhead from Space

All of witch have already been given a special edition release, and Spearhead is getting a blu ray release.

So, assuming there is no new content on the discs, all we’re paying for is 4×25 mins documentaries.

I am normally the first one to defend re-releases, but COME ON! We don’t need a third (or in Spearhead’s case, a fourth) release of a story that has already been released twice!

    • Ben Roberts

      April 6th, 2013 - 1:07am

      (cont.)

They are charging over forty quid for something that most people own multiple times.
I for one already have TOTC, I have TA twice. What those of us who already own them are paying for is forty quid for a 100min documentary and a nice box (assuming there is no other features)

And to think one of the most anticipated releases has been bumped back three months in order for this…

Please correct me if I have the wrong end of the stick here, and accept my apologies for this rant. :/

      April 6th, 2013 - 1:24am

With the anouncment that the zygons are due back for the 50th aniversary it now seems more likely that it was pushed back so it was released closer to their return to tv. Galaxy 4 webshop has pulled the regeneration box from preorder and sainsbury’s entertainment now has a pre order date of tba. The british video asociation (bva) which bbcww is a part of lists it as pulled from schedue http://www.bva.org.uk/node/2035979.

      April 6th, 2013 - 9:43am

Having looked at the rrp of the doctors revisited in America I doubt it will be the same thing. Using currency converter there is about 30 quid of difference in rrp between the regeneration box and doctors revisted.
