Doctor Who – Frontios DVD

Doctor Who – Frontios DVD

An irresistible force draws the TARDIS to the barren surface of Frontios, where in the far future the last surviving humans cower amongst the ruins of their wrecked spacecraft.

Under constant threat from lethal meteorite bombardments, few of the doomed colony members realize that the ground of Frontios itself opens up and devours the unwary. Not permitted to assist, the Doctor attempts to leave, but is thwarted when the unimaginable occurs: the TARDIS is utterly destroyed.

All the while, burrowing undetected below the planet’s crust, sickening alien parasites prepare a gruesome and final fate for all humanity.

Frontios starring Peter Davison
by Eric Pringle

As a strange force takes hold of the TARDIS, the Doctor and his friends find themselves grounded on the inhospitable planet of Frontios, where the last survivors of the human race scratch out a desperate existence far away from their long-dead homeworld.

The colonists are gripped by fear and paranoia as the planet is battered by attacks from space and they watch as the bodies of their dead are sucked into the ground.

But the Doctor only appreciates the true gravity of the situation when he finds that the TARDIS has been destroyed…

Did you hear it from the DW magazine special preview ? From what I’ve read, from teh maker of it, it really is AN AUTHENTIC piece of documentry. You know, those peopel who do the editting aren’t in full control after all !! ❗ It all depends on what opinions the people talking, in the documentry, have got. ANd what they say… 😉

I dislike that story, Kinda. I got Castrovalva, The Visitation (two delights in a row) Earthshock and TimeFLight, then all of the 2nd season. So yeah, I missed out some stories from Peter Davison’s first season (Four to doomsday looks pretty aweful, not my kind of story). 😀

@Paul Mcgann is the doctor You have missed the point about the revisitation dvds then. its not about remaking them or adding cgi to them. its about improving the restoration and adding documentarys. Wouldnt get too excited about optional cgi in the future. After day of the daleks it has been said by members of the restoration team there are no more optional cgi stories planned. Season 21 will be completly available before august as awakening which is also peter davidsons last remaining story is out June 20 to be exact.

Ahh !, we know that now.

June the 20th, thats a while away for me, but it WAS just a hazard of a rough estimate when I say “before august”. 😉

Season 21, Planet of Fire is one Ive ALWAYS wanted, been after that one. Is it the highlight of the season? Well I dare say it, but despite all the excitedness and fantasy the stories may give, its the Caves Of Adrozahni that is a real masterpiece, a defining one of the pick. Its all to do with Phillip Hinchcliffes output into the series work. Still, Frontios and the Awakening are treasures to…

ONE of the many DVDs of Peter Davisons era I intend to be getting. Only thing is, I needa order the Awakening and the watch the Kings Demons and Snakedance stories from Season 20, the DVDs first.

The whole 21st season will be available from DVD by August, with TWO re-released stories. I might pass on Rememberance of the Daleks DVD from Revisitations 2. Do you know why? Not only is it a terribley written story, it also doesnt even come with new Special FX ! Why bother remaking the DVD if youre not going to update the effects! MAN ! 😡

A story of great elling, not avery acclaimed one, bear in mind, but Frontios will prove a great experience view for many of you, I assure.
If only the other stories of Davisons era could have had the elements in the making, that Frontios had. Its really well-made, I should know because the story was coverd in the Fact of Fiction in DWMagazine, a while ago.
We shall see what we think, when it hits the shelves.
But me, Im gna have to get the awakening first, I finnished the excellent novellisation of that story just last week, have to see it!

-Cor, its a bit soon for an official cover artwork!

Need2get: Snakedance and finnish the 20th season, then there would be the Awakening aswell as that other earth-set story, the Gunfighters (I dont GET any of the old blackandwhite stories in my DVD shelf, just have to keep it in my set of blackandwhite Dr Who VHSes.).

But this story, Frontios, is actually going to be out on DVD before the Awakening is! Its completely muddley-wuddley ! 👿

Mcgann is the doctor, you know like you said it would be muddley wuddley well I didn’t know that these two stories HAD to be watched in order but I would like a DVD boxset with The Awakening and Frontios because they made that double video of The Awakening and Frontios but I’m sure that The Awakening will come out sepratley in the future. But I would prefer a double boxset 😕

Well, I love both the Awakening (reading the novelisation, and if the episode is anything like this, which I know it is, itll be unmisable and magical) and its subsequent follower Frontios (well known for its dark and dismall storyline, the Tardis being lost, the Doctor stranded on this barren land in the future with human colonists under a catastropic environment, bombarded by on-going asteroid collision) and as for the story alltogether, its a great example of its time. The 1984 season, season 21. 🙂
They could never top that storys nature.

I have to agree that its bizzare Mcgann is the doctor but the reason awakening and gunfighters are in a set its both storys are set on earth and both are to do with earth history (tombstone and civil war) so there is some connection even if it is very small connection. Ido think it would have been better frontios and awakening as a set but as i buy all classic dvd releases anyway for my collection im not that fussed.

I get that, its how 2[E work. Its much more sense for them to do it this way. Still, I intend by top priority to pre-order this one.
The Gunfighters I dont mind, infact after learning a bit about it, the story is worthy to be the first B+W story on my shelf! I never HAD any pre-Jon Pertwee stories, and I DO intend to get The Dalek Invasion of Earth and POSSIBLEY also the War Machines and the Space Mueseum Box-Set.

Say, if you pre-order this thing, itll already be paid for, WAY before it gets sent off? I hope so, I hope its like that.

Ive read up on this announcement just yesterday, all these DVDs confirmed.
What thoroughly dissapoints me is that the two magnificently important season 21 stories The Awakening and Frontios, which are both subsequent stories that follow on from one another and ARE both scheduled for release this year, are not gonna be brought out together!

What the FUDGE has gone down with 2E ? 🙄
Love both of these and hope to get the Awakening and Snakedance offa ebay on their own, dont want the Gunfighters OR Kinda. Got the book of the Awakening.
