adventure_in_time_and_spaceAn Adventure in Space and Time (DVD)

Available to order now from www.bbcshop.com or www.amazon.co.uk

This fantastic one-off drama travels back in time to 1963 to see how the beloved Doctor Who was first brought to the screen.

Actor William Hartnell felt trapped by a succession of hard-man roles. Wannabe producer Verity Lambert was frustrated by the TV industry’s glass ceiling. Both of them were to find unlikely hope and unexpected challenges in the form of a Saturday tea-time drama, time travel and monsters!

Allied with a team of brilliant people, they went on to create the longest-running science fiction series ever, now celebrating its 50th anniversary. An Adventure in Space and Time is written by Mark Gatiss, executive produced by Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and Caroline Skinner and directed by Terry McDonough.

David Bradley (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Broadchurch) plays the lead role of William Hartnell while Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife, The Woman in Black) co-stars as the first ever producer of Doctor Who, Verity Lambert.

The stellar cast is joined by Sacha Dhawan (Waris Hussein), Lesley Manville (Heather Hartnell), and Brian Cox (Sydney Newman). A must see drama for all doctor who and drama fans alike.

DVD extra features include:

• Leaflet featuring programme images and an exclusive foreword by writer and executive producer Mark Gatiss

• William Hartnell: The Original

• The Making of An Adventure – narrated by Carole Ann Ford

• Reconstructions:

– Scenes from An Unearthly Child and the pilot

- Regenerations

– Farewell to Susan

- Festive Greeting
– The Title Sequences
– Deleted Scenes

- The Radiophonic Workshop

– Verity’s Leaving Party”

I got a note on Monday saying it had been sent off to me. Strange as Day of the Doctor I got last Friday morning (Only a tenner in WHSmith) and the last Matt Smith season DVD didn’t arrive until almost a week later.

When it comes, it’ll be worth it.

re e-mail posted by Marcus Stanton re
John Hurt’s Doctor is the Doctors Dad.

If anyone recently has seen the mini episode with Paul MaGann in, its quite cleat that Paul’s doctor regenerates into John Hurt.

As for ”An Adventure in Space and Time”,I was a fan of Hartnell’s doctor and watched him when I was a boy. David play in him brilliantly.I wonder if he could come back as a guest, as the first Doctor in the main series.

I would also like to see more of Paul McGann’s 8th Doctor, which he was excellent in the that mini story.

I’m confused, the purple more modern version is the DVD or not? Is the older one the DVD or is the purple one the colour and the older one the inside over thingy or what? Somebody explain

The DVD is a reversable cover. I love the one with the Cyberman, Dalek and web creature.

    • The Comment Man

      November 9th, 2013 - 9:29am

what do you mean reversable? Do you mean the purple one is the front and the one with the Daleks and Cybermen is the back?

    • Rhain

      November 9th, 2013 - 11:12am

By “reversible”, he means that you can take the artwork out of the slip, flip out, and place it back in, and it will be the other artwork. 🙂

    • AlzieWhozie

      November 28th, 2013 - 8:26am

I love both covers (I could almost imagine a Harry Hill FIGHT), but will opt for the one with the Dalek, Cyberman and Zarbi. Mmmm

Either way, it was fantastic viewing with many a tear and I loved the scene with Matt Smith. No words were needed, nor should there have been and thats what really put the icing on the cake. Well done to all involved!! Can’t wait for the DVD to come through next week.

Right, is this going to be included with The Day of the Doctor blu-ray? Is The Day of the Doctor going to be normal blu-ray included with 3D blu-ray because it seems too cheap to be blu-ray 3D?

    • Marcus Stanton

      November 7th, 2013 - 8:10pm

And also, I just wanna put this out there: I reckon John Hurt’s Doctor is the Doctors Dad… Nobody’s thought of that. Think about it, the Doctors Dad might have wanted the Doctor to have a better life but the Doctor didn’t approve of what his Dad (John Hurt) done. So the Doctor thinks he should keeps his unworthy secret to his grave.

    • Some bloke

      November 7th, 2013 - 9:41pm

but they’ve introduced him as the doctor, so he wouldn’t be the doctor’s dad. That’s like bringing out a cyberman and saying ‘these are the new daleks, but they’re not really, they’re the cybermen’

    • I Ended the Time War

Our Doctor could’ve taken his name from the very start and decided to keep it even though he’s not worthy of the name ‘Doctor’. And they’re the rainbow Daleks.

    • TheKaneda

      November 26th, 2013 - 8:32am

@pwilc1967 – Although he/she may not have any classic Doctor Who, I think the point is that if it’s produced in HD (which classic Doctor Who wasn’t) then it’s Blu-ray or nothing.

Which I totally agree with. Especially considering the attention to detail and cinematography on this one. I wouldn’t even *consider* getting this on DVD.

    • pwilc1967

      November 26th, 2013 - 9:25am

Obviously if something is available on blu ray, then that takes preference. I was just wondering if Darnall42 refuses ANYTHING on dvd. Perhaps BBC are judging it’s potential by putting it out on dvd first (strange as it’s dearer than the blu ray of Day of the Doctor) or they have plans to include it in a massive blu ray box set with “Time of the Doctor”. Broadchurch has been ouit months on DVD now only getting a blu-ray release.

To confirm I will hold out for blu ray too but if certain titles (usually limited to tv series) …..

    • pwilc1967

      November 26th, 2013 - 9:26am
